Meanwhile In Florida: A Car With A Window Mounted A/C Unit And Generator On Top

July 16, 2019

Because Florida will find a way, this is a video from Daytona Beach of a man who's installed a window A/C unit in one of the backseat of his late 80's Mercedes 560 SEL, and mounted a gas-powered generator on top of the roof to run it. That is pretty brilliant. Maybe not as brilliant as my automotive problem solving prowess, but I was tired of paying the absorbent oil change prices at Lickety Lube so I decided to do it myself and four bottles of extra virgin olive oil later now I drive a bicycle.

Keep going for the video.

Thanks to Dunc, who agrees if you drive 200MPH over the speed limit you don't even need AC.

Saw this is person the other day. There's a Facebook page called "What’s Shady In Daytona Beach" that showcases all the non postcard parts of the World's Most Famous Beach.

    He is rednecker than me.

I grew up in Florida. Few images I've seen manage to more accurately encapsulate how things really do be like that sometimes in that state.

I dunno man, maybe I would have removed the trunk cover to add enough space / ventilation to put the generator in there.

The stability and legality of this set up seems precarious...

I don't think there's anything illegal about having portable AC installed on a car. If it's falling off then there's a problem. Same with the generator.

And... I don't think there's any laws against living in your car. Granted there's some laws and rules and general nonsense that makes doing so a huge hassle and potentially could land you in trouble with the law but it's not explicitly illegal to be homeless.

Yeah, there's a complete absence of duct tape here.
