The Truckla, A Telsa Modded Into A Pickup Truck

June 19, 2019

These are two videos from inventor Simone Giertz of her Truckla, a Tesla Model 3 she modded into a pickup truck. The first video is a fake commercial for the Truckla, the second much longer video (thirty minutes!) documents how the modifications were made. Now I don't know about you, but I'm feeling inspired. "You're not modding a Tesla into a monster truck." And why not? "For one, you don't have the money to buy a Tesla." Not buy -- lease. "And what happens when it's time to turn it back in?" Oh I'll be dead long before then, presumably after trying to jump the Grand Canyon and coming up six miles short.

Keep going for the videos.

Thanks to Madz, who agrees it's only a matter of time until somebody mods the cockpit of their Tesla into a bedroom, complete with bedside table and sleep mask.

    So stupid. What a waste.

Buying a Tesla? Nah... they're pretty good cars. There's no parts network and that's bad.

There's a handful of hardware issues with their computer systems (i.e. they use cheap flash ram for data logging).

As for battery life, they've been rock solid so far. And the electric motors are just three phase induction motors which is a technology that's about as good as it'll ever get already.

If someone manages to ruin a Tesla motor it's going to be due to doing something really stupid or there'll be some kind of design flaw like the cooling system on the Model S.

The Model S has a cooling system that doesn't play well with heavy use like say, track day. I can't very well articulate the difference between the coolant system between Model S and Model 3. There's some info out there but they're a different drive train even though they work the same way. If you want to build a Tesla powered something or other you're gonna need a Model 3 donor car just to be safe.

Why would anyone want to devolve into being a crusty redneck?

  • GeneralDisorder

I grew up in a rural area and was surrounded by hillbillies and redneck types my whole life. There's something to be said about the care-free mud slinging in a 4wd. Of course I wasn't really a redneck. I suppose I came pretty close buying a car for $25 then driving it to the motocross track to hit jumps. It was a good thing we had 10 inches of snow or that car wouldn't have made the jump twice.

I was into her videos, but she swears too fuc*ing much!

It still has the clearance of a car. At best it's a crappy looking El Camino.

    But that's no truck.

Now she's also the "shitty low rider queen!"
