What Is Wrong With You?: Motorcycle Racer Pulls Another Rider's Brake Lever Mid-Race

September 10, 2018

motorcycle-race-brake-pull.jpg

This is a video of Moto2 racer Romano Fenati blatantly pulling the brake lever of another rider mid-race. For the record, that is frowned upon. Probably even scowled upon while waving a no-no finger. Thankfully, Romano's attempted sabotage (which scored him a black flag for irresponsible driving) didn't end with a crash, although I wouldn't be surprised if it did end with someone from his opponent's team waiting to greet his legs with a tire iron. The ol' pleasure to make your acquaintance.

Keep going for the video.

Thanks to Mark FS, who agrees that's not safe.

I agree with Mark FS, this is not safe.

  • I've always said that motorcycle racing would be far more interesting if they instituted Road Rash rules... ;-)

  • Doog

    Death Race!

  • Damon Sherman

dick move. He could have killed a dude if the other guy didn't know how to control his bike as well as he did.

  • Douchy McDouche

I believe that's called brake checking. He was only making sure his fellow racer had functional brakes.

  • TheQiwiMan

LOL what a douche bag. And here I thought every young man who rode a crotch rocket was a perfectly saintly gentleman.

The term squid has existed for young motorcyclists since shortly after the term was coined for young Navy recruits.

A lot of Navy Squids would take their first pay check after getting assigned a duty and buy a stupidly fast motorcycle (but not have enough left over for protective gear).

Also some big fat stupid Harley riders call anyone on a fast bike a "squid" as a shortened version of "squirrely kid". I think that usage is extremely narrow (like... only Sturgis-going old-timers).

  • TyDurd

Squid is also an acronym for - Stupidly Quick Underdressed Imminently Dead

  • GeneralDisorder

    Is that a backronym?

  • Doog

    Almost certainly.

  • Jason Christopher

This guy should have been jumped by every single team after the race.

When I used to play paintball we had a rule that anyone caught "wiping" (i.e. getting hit and wiping off the paint to keep playing) would have to stand in front of the firing squad. And everyone playing would fire until the person falls to the ground and begs for mercy.

Sometimes we had accusations of foul play that ended in face to face paint duelling where two guys were pissed off and would just dump 50 to 100 rounds into each other from like 15 feet away. Technically this was against the rules but once the game stopped we'd let them go for two reasons... One: it was fucking hilarious. Two: it was a lot easier to talk things over when they were both in pain.

So you're saying this wasn't ok. Bold.

  • He was fired from the Racing Team and all Sponsors dropped him. The very least it could happen to him. Oh, he apologized in various social media- the poor kid. *scowl*

  • WhiteEagle2

Thats good. I'm not sure what else he thought was going to happen from doing that. Maybe it were some race on back streets that wasn't televised, this trick would work.
