Impressive: Making A Right Turn Hauling A 197-Foot Wind Turbine Blade

October 9, 2017

This is a video of a truck carrying a 197-foot long wind turbine blade making a 90-degree right turn across a bridge thanks to the trailer's high clearance and steerable rear wheels (previously). I included two versions of the video below -- a sped-up 38 second version for those of you who believe time is money, and a two and a half minute regular-speed version for those of you who believe in wasting as much time at work as possible. The sped-up version makes it seem more impressive though, because the turn was actually completed quite slowly. Me? I could have made that turn at 60 miles and hour eating a bowl of cereal and steering with my knee.

Keep going for the videos.

Thanks to hairless, who informed me wind turbine blades probably aren't Amazon Prime two-day free shipping eligible.

The amount of coal and fuel needed to build and move these things taints it's "green" vibe quite a lot.

I hadn't even considered how these large things might make 90 degree turns, but it's sure good to know that they can.

  • GeneralDisorder

I'd imagine the first person who had to move one of these considered this well in advance of actually moving it.

  • Doog

Haha yeah I would hope so. Either that or they were knew they were just going straight (which I suppose still means they considered it)

Meh, when a dude competently uses a piece of hardware that is specifically designed to do a task, it's not really all that impressive.

Now if he could do that with a 1978 Toyota pickup truck and a wheelbarrow, THAT would be impressive!

  • You're so jaded.
It's the fact that this can be done at all that's impressive!
