All Of A Sudden It's Winter 'Geostorm' Taxi Prank

October 17, 2017

This is a prank pulled to promote 'Geostorm', a movie at first glance I assumed was a remake of 'The Day After Tomorrow'. In the prank, unsuspecting passengers are picked up by a taxi, at which point the Taxi TV station cuts to a breaking news broadcast announcing that dangerous ice storms are popping up out of nowhere in New York City, sometimes in just seconds. Then the broadcast loses its signal and the cab turns down an alley that's been set up to look like it's iced over -- complete with snow, frozen people, and birds falling from the sky. As far as pranks go, it's elaborate, but not very believable. The only thing that seems frightening is the jump-scare from the guy who comes and bangs on the window. If I were one of those passengers I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5 severe disappointments I wasn't on Cash Cab instead.

Keep going for the video.

Thanks to Nadia K and Kevin, who agree the driver should have turned around and been a snowman.

Yeesh. That was bad. I bet the movie's worse.

Um, were it super cold, it'd be cold. Not just frosty looking. And if it's snowing like that, then it's not supercold. Around 0 to -20, the precip is tiny little flakes and not big ones - that's the 20-30 degree range. Freezing people solid mid step? colder than -80.

Hope none of these people in the cab were running late to their cardiologist appointment when they were picked up.

Hollywood today: Hire a marketing company to put more thought and effort into promoting a movie than went into actually creating the movie it's promoting.

Gawddamn that looks like a fucktarded movie.

  • paperboy

I don't appreciate that insensitive language... my youngest son is fucktarded.

I like how some of those fuckers would rather just let that guy freeze to death than offer shelter, lol.

I thought the same thing - those jerks are all "No, he gonna die, nothing we can do, why aren't you backing up out of here"

  • Bling Nye

To be fair, he looks like a coked up hobo. And it's NYC. And it was not actually cold. And the 'frozen' people look like mannequins even from a distance. And this attempt at viral marketing was stupid, as likely the movie is.

I did like how the cab also had an advertisement for the movie on it. Just shows how little attention people pay to their surroundings. One glance at it would've given the whole gimmick away.

"a prank cab? aww, i thought i was on one of those bang buses..."

    Anything's possible in a geostorm.
