4.591 Seconds: The New Rubik's Cube Solving Record

October 30, 2017

This is a video of Korean Rubik's Cube master SeungBeom Cho setting the new world record for solving a 3 x 3 Rubik's Cube. The new time? 4.591 seconds, beating Patrick Ponce's previous record of 4.67 seconds. For reference, my personal record is 16 years, 3 months, 11 days, 4 hours, 42 minutes and I only have the green side done so far.

Keep going for the record breaking video while I wish I had a squad.

Thanks to JF, who agrees it's only a matter of time until these kids are solving Rubik's Cubes instantly using telekinesis.

But I saw him finish it in just over 18.364 seconds... Oh, I was watching at .25 speed.

  • Perpetual Pizza

This guy got one hell of a lucky scramble.

  • Jenness

The joy on those kids faces and how genuinely happy and excited they were for him and to a part of that moment. Wow - that gave me all the feelz. God bless all of them!!

  • Big Dog on Krampus

left hanging at 0:23. but quickly retracted to minimize damage.

I was gonna say "he didn't want to high-five a loser" but then I remembered what I was watching.

Can you imagine how crushed Patrick Ponce, the previous record holder, must feel. I mean personally I couldn't solve one of those things if my life depended on it.

  • GeneralDisorder

I've read that it's basically a trick anyone can learn and to get quick at it you just have to practice. That said, I don't have the patience to learn the trick and don't own a Rubik's Cube. My kids don't own a Rubik's Cube either.

I did buy a knock-off at a yard sale once but after mucking about with it for 10 minutes I decided it wasn't worth solving.
