Python Regurgitates Entire Antelope To Avoid Capture, Still Gets Caught

March 17, 2017

This is a video of a 3.9 meter (~13-foot) African Rock Python regurgitating (like eating something in reverse, painfully) the antelope it swallowed to avoid being captured by the snake handlers that came to move it from the farm it was on. It still gets captured though, so the meal was a waste. Now you've got a dead antelope and a hungry python on your hands, which, as far as things to be stuck on a desert island with goes, are nowhere near my top two choices.

Keep going for the video.

Thanks to SOMEBODY, who could be anybody. Is it you? Tussle my hair and tell me everything's gonna be okay.

Always a treat to hear the sweet sound of Afrikaans.

Worthwhile highlight: at one point, one of the guys suggests taking the buck with to feed to the snake later, and the other guy says "nah, he won't eat it again".

I wonder they won't eat it? is it just because it is already dead, or the bile you know why because i'm too lazy to google.

Interesting... I know that a lot of snakes will only take live prey, and I think that it might be too painful / sensitive for the snake to swallow something that big again so soon after eating it and then coughing it up (the one guy in the video says that regurgitating a buck is often fatal, cos the buck's horns can puncture the snake on the way out).

BTW, I wouldn't be SUPER surprised if it turned out that the farmer ate the buck...

Just kidding about that last part :D... But you never know. Africa is Africa.
