Damn: Watch A 1.5-Inch Reinforced Steel Rod Pulled Until It Snaps In Half (In Slow Motion)

January 18, 2017

This is a video of the Slow Mo Guys visiting a Perdue University testing lab to watch a 1.5-inch thick reinforced steel rod being stretched until it snaps in half. It's actually pretty interesting to witness, because I didn't think that could be done by anything on earth but Superman. You can actually see the rod stretching before it snaps clean. I learned a lot by watching it. Mostly, that if you're a reinforced steel rod you're going to want to stay the hell away from the testing labs at Perdue University.

Hit the jump for the video while I break a couple fingers trying to snap a chopstick.

Thanks to Dunc, who agrees even if it is safe, you still shouldn't stand that close. You never know what kind of freak accident God has in store for you.

Note: a stone is some british nonsense unit of measure equivalent to 14 'murica pounds. When Gav says "that's like 10 megastone" he's only off by a factor of 1000. 10 kilostone (because kip is kilopounds and 140 kip would be 10 k-stone)

I suppose next you'll tell me rods, hands, hogsheads and oxgang are real units of measure too. (They are)

Over 5 minute video for 5 seconds of action. Like my love life.

Don't slut shame me. I'm a free independent beautiful fierce woman, and it's the '90s.

This was pretty exciting to watch. I'm a sucker for suspense.
