US Map Of Each State's Favorite Christmas Movie

December 21, 2016

This is the US map of each state's favorite Christmas movie, created by the folks at, who "collected the top-rated yuletide films as rated over at AMC, and cross-referenced them with Google Trends state data from the past 10 years." Is it accurate? No clue, but White Christmas only took Vermont (admittedly appropriate), and Die Hard didn't win any states. Still, I like how my home state of West Virginia's favorite Christmas movie is Bad Santa. I feel like that says a lot about West Virginia. Mostly, that there probably isn't a single adult in the state on Santa's nice list this year.

Thanks to TR, who agrees Christmas Vacation should have taken way more states. Like, all of them.

GW - That's why we kicked you out of Alabama!

Oh look. Another map of each state's arbitrary bullfuck. LIES!!!

I like the geographical distribution. For instance, what makes the fine people of the Great Lakes states and the Northeast Atlantic seaboard enjoy Elf so much? Why does the Southwestern corner Google "The Nightmare Before Christmas" more than any other movie? You can draw curves from state to state, with few intersections, simply based on the movie of choice.

  • No "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians"?

  • Frédéric Purenne

How the heck is Elf even mentioned? It's such an hor- *glances over at rotten tomatoes and IMDB scores* -rible... movie. Erm.

Okay, after reading the article, I understand it's based off google search. NOW EXPLAIN ROTTEN TOMATOES!

    Oh West Virginia...

  • KLD

Yeah, I find it really hard to believe A Christmas Story is the fave in only one state.

No Christmas Slay, Krampus, Black Christmas...what the hell!!!

  • KungFuTreachery

Not even one state chose "Die Hard?" This is upsetting.

I would think "most Googled" would be very different from "favorite."
