Kaboom!: Skipping A Sodium Disk Across A River

PROTIP: Loud, keep your speakers in check.

Mixing sodium and water causes a violent chemical reaction (my favorite kind). So what happens when you try to skip a pound disk of sodium across a river? EXPLOSIVE MAGIC. Like a wizard with diarrhea. The sodium disk doesn't really skip that much though, it goes airborne after the first big explosion. When reached for comment about the experiment, local residents didn't return my calls because they were fish and they were all killed.

Hit the jump for the video, then let's try eating pure sodium.

Thanks to Thomas W, who once skipped a rock all the way across a river and hit a young couple picnicking on the other side. Way to go, Thomas.

The guy filming this must be unbearable to be anywhere near at a fireworks show.

  • n.g.

Why didn't they get the guy who knew how to skip stones?

  • I've done this with a large chunk of Lithium in an old abandoned quarry lake back in my college days. Boom! Boom! Boom!

Pfft, looked purple to me. But I'm probably having a stroke too.
