How To: Make A Cocktail w/ A Smoke-Filled Ice Ball Inside

May 10, 2016

This is a video from Cocktail Chemistry demonstrating how to make a cocktail with a smoke-filled ice ball inside. You're supposed to break the ice ball with a small hammer, and the smoke lingers over the cocktail for a while, adding a smokey aroma. This would probably cost at least $30 at a bar that's fancy enough to serve drinks with smoke-filled ice balls inside. I liked how the ball didn't break the first time he hits it with the hammer. I thought for sure he was going to accidentally hit the glass and break that. I wonder how many times he actually did do that. At least once, right? One time I drank out of a beer bottle that was broken at the top and it cut my lip bad and I bled EVERYWHERE. It looked like I'd just eaten a heart or something. I took so many pictures. But what I should have taken is a trip to the hospital because now my lip healed funny and it looks like I'm always snarling. See? I look like a wolf, right? "Just a really ugly man." I should hire you as my confidence coach.

Thanks to Greg P, who just wants a beer and a shot, thanks.

The hammer hitting the ice is too "glass shards in your stomach coming right up!" Think it would be better to pour a heated liquor over the ice to release the smoke instead, like those chocolate balls.

Is it just me or does this guy really suck at audio?

  • GreyMatter

I'll just have what Greg is having thanks! No fancy crap for me!

  • How does this ice ball stay frozen this whole goddamn time its filled with smoke and in his hand? Witchcraft, that's how. Cold dead witch hands.

  • Bling Nye

Never trust a bartender that needs a shot glass to pour whiskey.
