Melting Pennies With The Power Of The Sun

March 21, 2016

melting-pennies.jpg

This is a video of a guy melting pennies in less than a minute with the help of the sun and a Fresnel lens. I want to put my hand in front of it. The sun: it is powerful. Back me up, Icarus. "I hate that thing." Ahahahhahahaha, you dummy. You should have listened to your father.

Keep going for the video.

Thanks to Tim, who can melt coins with his laser vision and now I don't have enough quarters to do laundry anymore. Thanks pal.

These are post-1983 pennies. It's the zinc cores that are melting. the copper is still very much solid... just foil-thin.

Could have at least shown what it looked like after cooldown... this guy has a lot to learn about internet science destruction porn.

  • Cup-O-Jesus

    That was just cent-sless

  • TheQiwiMan

    Well that was....... underwhelming.

  • GeneralDisorder

The King of Random has a good Fresnel lens video.

  • netloco

uh... correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't destruction of currency a federal offense.

  • Someguy

Only if you're doing it to sell the metal for profit or to doctor bills to appear to be of a higher value.

  • MrBungler

Yup illegal to melt pennies and non-silver nickels. Silver dimes and quarters are fine to melt.

Not what I would expect it to look like. Would think it would smoke as surface oil, etc burns off for starters.
