30 Year Pediatrician Demonstrates "The Hold", The Best Way to Calm A Crying Baby

December 3, 2015

This is a video of pediatrician Dr. Robert Hamilton demonstrating "the hold", the best way he's found to calm a crying baby during his 30 year experience of dealing with crying babies. Crying babies: that is not a job for me. Anybody here have a crying baby and want to test this out for us? I want to know if it works. Alternatively, deal with crying babies the same way I do: hand it to somebody else and leave the room.

Keep going for the video, but skip to around a minute unless you want to feel like you're sitting in a doctor's office waiting to hear bad news.

Thanks to Stephanie B, who was a calm baby who never cried. Me? I started crying the moment I was born and didn't stop till I was 14.

I'll try this with my wife next time I make her cry, by, for instance, breathing.

I wonder if this will work on my 8 year old daughter. She's a crybaby most of the time. I think I can lift her like that... Maybe. She's very strong through. I might need duct tape to make it possible.

Oh cool to know, the guy makes it look so easy...will try it with my nephew but I bet the little thing will stop crying just to bite me

  • Just YouTube "Nap Time", way more effective than this new age coddling crap.

  • Wonder if he was ever sold things on tv.

As a father with a six week old at home, I appreciate all the help I can get. Keep up the journalistic exceptionalism!

  • What are we doing here GW.

  • The_Wretched

Grab me by the nuts and throat and I shut the hell up too.

So basically, he's a pediatrician trained in krav maga.

Cry babies don't stand a chance.

I have facebook for my baby pictures that i don't want to see.

I find holding it underwater for about a minute works too.
