Clever: A Clock That Looks Like An Analog Voltmeter

November 17, 2015

This is the Model AWK-105 Analog Voltmeter Clock designed by Awkward Engineer. It tells time with two analog meters, costs $140, and comes in both industrial gray and olive drab colorways. It's perfect for the mad scientist on your gift list. Don't have a mad scientist on your gift list? Then you need to get out there and MEET PEOPLE. I have THREE mad scientists on my gift list. Plus two warlocks, a handful of elves, a fairy, and a bearded lady. I've already decided I'm getting the bearded lady an electric razor.

Keep going for a couple more shots including the other color in case you have $140 to spend on a clock.

Thanks to Dave L, who tells time the old fashioned way: asking a rich person who can afford a pocketwatch.

I'm retired. My time's not that valuable

  • Ron

    Is there an alarm? Snooze?

  • Tom Carten

I want that soooooo bad. I also want $140.

Novel idea and very interesting, would love to have one,but like most others, in these economical times and living on a fixed income.... Out of reach for me....I just got a replacement analog wall clock at Wal-Mart for $5.00....

  • 16vjohnny

Really? This is a novelty item dude... you appear to understand that by your first comment, then proceed to tell us you got a regular clock for $5.00? I hate to break it to you, but if the goal was ONLY to tell time, I'm afraid you wasted the $5.00 as well. Thanks for the entirely irrelevant comment.

  • Murray Felstead

No good. There's no second hand.

  • James Bryant

    Not difficult to do.

  • space_force_jericho

Pretty sweet. Not sure it's $140 worth of sweet.

  • Michael Knight

just don't take it to any school system in texas..... they'll call the bomb squad on ya.

  • Lee Onion George

Or if your muslin, invite you to the white house.

  • 16vjohnny

I love how this instantly went political. Seriously? Damn idiots.

  • KryptoTSD

I have just GOT to get me one of THESE!

  • Bling Nye

Now, if they rig it to electrocute you when you hit the snooze button, I'm BUYING TWELVE.

  • Ollie Williams

FUCK! The Olive Drab is out of stock. I had my credit card in hand.

  • Jon

Simple! Get the white one and some Olive Drab acrylics! (easy to find colour thanks to people who paint miniature armies) An air brush or spray would get the best results.

  • Ollie Williams

Yes, but then I'd have to recreate all the yellow pin striping and text.

  • It. Is. Beautiful!
But I don't have that much to spend on clocks.
    Now I'm sad.

  • James Bryant

On eBay you can buy an Arduino Pro Mini from China for about $2.50, two analog voltmeters for $4 each and a diecast box box for under $10. You'll need a few more bits and power but you can probably make your own for under $25. And if you don't know how, go to your local makerspace and ask (and folks may have some of the bits you need in their junkboxes and give them to you as a good home). So no need to be sad.
