The End Nears: Tesla's Prototype Robotic Charging Snake Finds Car's Charging Port And Plugs Itself In

August 6, 2015

This is a short video of one of Tesla's prototype chargers demonstrating its ability to locate a car's charging port and plug itself in. Why does this exist? Can people not be bothered to plug their own cars in? I don't sit around at the gas station waiting for Johnny Five to fill up my tank. Obviously, this has some serious ramifications for robots in the future. Mostly very bad ones.

Hit the jump for the video.

Thanks to Lyndon, who doesn't even believe in electricity and is convinced it's all wizards, which is only 50% correct (the other half is witches).

I think this was made for the Tesla owners in Oregon state, Johnny Five won't even let you fill up your own tank there.

  • Darth_Spartan

It starts here and suddenly we become the batteries for those robots to charge the cars.

Yeah when times are tough, come up with useless decidedly stupid inventions that are entirely unnecessary. Tesla.. shaming the name.

  • securitywyrm

Just what is "useless" about this? I think it's a fairly impressive bit of engineering.

  • TalonDesigns

Agreed.. Could you imagine how useful this would be, if you get home after a long (no charging port) drive... Just climb out of the car and go in the house to relax?

This could eliminate the whole "s#!+.. I'm late - forgot to charge the car" scenario.

And thus began the trend of people wearing pants with a tesla charging port on the butt.
