This is the IndieGoGo campaign to build a full-scale replica of Minas Tirith somewhere in southern England. The architects and structural engineers behind the project have calculated they only need around £1,850,000,000 (~$2,885,000,000) to make it happen. If they don't reach their funding goal everyone gets their money back though, so you don't have to worry about them taking all the cash and skipping over the border into Mordor.
We are an ambitious team of architects and structural engineers who are passionate about creating a beautiful, inspirational and fully-functioning replica of Peter Jackson's depiction of Minas Tirith, as seen in his Lord of the Rings films.
We all share a love of Tolkien's work, and a desire to challenge the common perception of community and architecture. We believe that, in realising Minas Tirith, we can create not only the most remarkable tourist attraction on the planet, but also a wonderfully unique place to live and work.
We aim to create both residential and commercial properties, allowing for sustainable growth and a high quality of life.
Residential properties will be categorised by tier, quality and size. Tiers vary from 1-5, quality varies from 2-5 stars, with the higher star denoting higher quality, and size varies from 1-4 bedrooms. A "3.4.2 property", for instance, would be located in the 3rd tier of the city, be of a 4 star quality and have 2 bedrooms - perfect for a young family.
In order to realise this amazing dream, we have calculcated our required budget to be in the region of £1.85bn. The vast majority of this expense will cover building costs - £15m for land, £188m for labour and £1.4bn for material. The remainder of the money will be invested in maintenance and public services until the year 2053.
We aim to commence work on Minas Tirith by the end of 2016, and complete the project by the end of 2023.
The residential properties start at £400,000 (~$625,000) for a 2-star, 1-bedroom unit, and go all the way up to £1,720,000 (~$2,700,000) for a 5-star, 4-bedroom penthouse. You only get a 100-year lease on the unit though, you don't actually own it. Also, is it really possible to build a fully functional replica of Minas Tirith for $3,000,000,000? Why haven't any billionaires done this? Bill Gates is worth over $79-billion, he could have like 26 Minas Tiriths already. Seriously, Bill, you should build at least one. For me? "Who are you?" What do you mean who am I? I'M THE VOICE OF THE INTERNET. Jk jk, I'm just a guy sitting in a cubicle who really wants to take his shirt off right now.
Thanks to Gimli, who's gonna bust up in there with his axe and demand free brewskis from all the taverns.
