Teen Sets New World Record For 7x7 Rubik's Cube

July 29, 2015

This is a video of 19-year old Feliks Zemdegs setting the new world record for solving a 7x7 Rubik's Cube. His time? 2 minutes, 23.55 seconds. I don't even think I could pick up a Rubik's Cube that fast. Also, I like how they keep the Rubik's Cube hidden under a bucket before it's time to start. Is that like a special bucket for Rubik's Cube competitions or the same thing I could pick up at Home Depot? I'm only asking because I need to pick up the supplies to patch a hole in my wall anyways. You think Rubik's Cubes are happier when they're solved or all mixed up? I feel like I'd want to be solved, but that's just me and I have a lot of problems. I feel like I'm a Rubik's Cube with not enough orange squares and three more green ones than it's supposed to have.

Keep going for the video.

OMGOSH! I sometimes what this world has come to. They keep the cube under
a "bucket" to hide it they r reddy to start solving. I could go on for hours...

  • Johnny Bigrig

The one thing though, they don't have like a set starting position for the cube, or people'd memorize it... So I gotta think there's some strong variance in how fast one cube might be solved versus another.. That kind of taints these records somewhat, I'd think.

Not that this isn't super impressive compared to non-competitors! But I'm just thinking within their community where they're all obviously going to be highly skilled at solving these puzzles.

Not the way they're solved. No-one solves them in the least moves possible (except maybe on 2x2s), it's about creating specific patterns and going from there. If a cube is sufficiently mashed/jumbled/whatever and not partly solved then the difference is not significant.

*I wish I was that guy*

  • Johnny Bigrig

Well, that's the thing isn't it? You easily could be this guy. Just spend 10 hours a day practicing solving Rubik's cubes, for 10 years... and you're this guy.

Do you still wish you were this guy?

  • Richard H Sanford

Yes, but without all that annoying practice and dedication and hard work stuff. Ick.

  • Meh

    Absolutely incredible.

    Un-freaking real
