Man Walks 600 Miles To Comic-Con Dressed As Stormtrooper To Honor Late Wife

July 10, 2015

Kevin Doyle's wife Eileen died in 2012 to pancreatic cancer. And this year Kevin walked over 600 miles to San Diego Comic-Con to honor her memory and raise money for Eileen's Little Angels, a non-profit he started to help raise the spirits of children battling cancer.

Eileen and I both shared a passion for Star Wars and are members of the world-wide costuming organization the 501st Legion and as a member I regularly participate in charitable events, fund-raising and various walks. This time I will be walking in Eileen's memory. With the money raised I will be able to create such things as a coloring book, bandana's, a blanket and plush toys...all featuring Eileen's artwork. It is my hope that this walk will help me to heal and give my life purpose by sharing Eileen's spirit through her artwork with children battling cancer and put a little sunshine into their lives.

After Comic-Con is over, Kevin will walk the 600 miles back to Petaluma, California, and hopes he will finally be able to move past the loss of his wife. Godspeed, Kevin, and let me know if you want to roast a tauntaun when you return.

Keep going for a couple more shots (including one of the couple at Comic-Con in the past), and a video news report.

Thanks to Sharon, who actually got to see Kevin on his journey. That is sweet.

Only 600 miles? Try it the aussie way, 15,000kms! (That's 9300 miles) onya Scott.

  • ToyBoxofGuns

I'm not crying, I don't know what the hell you're talking about.

  • Jenness

God bless him! That's pretty inspiring and a great testament to how love can transform even in grief to inspiring energy.

  • Andyman7714

I hope that this eases his pain.

So surreal. I used to work with Eileen at a video store waaaay back in the day, so I was blown away when I saw the picture of her up there.

She was a great lady. Very cool that Kevin is doing this!

Hear the Proclaimers? go fuck your 500 miles, this man is walking 600 miles. Then will walk 600 miles more.

  • ToyBoxofGuns

    It's actually 5,000 miles...

  • Andrew Newton

    Oh - it actually isn't

But I would walk 500 miles / And I would walk 500 more / To be the man who walked 1, 000 miles / To fall down at your door…

  • TheQiwiMan

Good, but not good enough, since this video actually refutes your refutation:

  • afterooster this the new rick roll?

  • GeneralDisorder

But did he walk 600 more? If not he's around 400 behind at the ComicCon. Because the Proclaimers "would walk 500 miles then... would walk 500 more... to walk 1000 miles to ..."

So... uh. Also what kind of miles were The Proclaimers talking about anyway? Roman Mile? Italian? They were Irish right? So Irish Mile? An Irish Mile is 1.62 statute miles. Whatever that means. Wiki tells me an Irish Mile is 2.048 kilometres which is 1.27 miles so 500 of those is 635.

Alright. I'm done being stupid... for the moment.

Edit: I lied. The Proclaimers were Scottish. A Scots mile is 1.12 miles so 560 modern miles.

  • kodama

    They're Scottish.

  • GeneralDisorder

    I edited. Thanks.

  • Andrew Newton

it's 600 miles to walk to comic con. The article states he has to walk 600 miles back home from comic con. If he is traveling 85 miles per hour, how long will it take him to travel 85 miles?

  • GeneralDisorder

    Reading articles is for chumps.
