It's Way Less Fun On Earth: Making A Tortilla In Space

June 10, 2015

tortilla-in-space.jpg

This is a video of European Space Agency astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti demonstrating how to make a mackerel, quinoa and leek cream tortilla in outerspace. It's worth a watch, if for no other reason but to watch the tortilla float around and realize how amazing that must be to experience and how much it sucks you and I are stuck here on earth while there are people playing with floating tortillas in outerspace. As you may recall, previously Samantha showed us how to use the space station's toilet, which I imagine is important to know about an hour after eating a mackerel, quinoa and leek cream tortilla.

Keep going for the video.

Thanks to Slowcooker, who I need to pull out of the kitchen cabinet and start using more.

..you lost me at quinoa. Gross.

  • I could watch her all day.

  • Emmitt Morgans

I *knew* that space toilet video was going to get a sequel... or maybe it should be considered a prequel?

    Food is feces in waiting.

  • Wilf Smith

She misses a bit at 1:23. When some random circuit blows and makes the whole station come crashing back to Earth, we'll know why. Decomposing taco ingredient.

It's not like it's a plastic cowboy figure or anything. Totally safe.

she was a tough old bat but eventually gravity got the best of her

Umm... she's not MAKING a tortilla. The tortilla is already made. She's making a taco. Doesn't take an astronaut to figure that out.
