Jared Leto's Suicide Squad Joker Appearance Revealed

April 25, 2015

This is a a shot of Jared Leto as The Joker for the upcoming Suicide Squad film. I like all the HA HA HA tattoos. I wonder if he got them ironically. What do you think the tattoo on his abs says? My guess is "DADDY'S GIRL", but I'm also not very good at guessing.

Thanks to Braden, who wants to see a shot of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn now.

Looks more like someone who would be Joker's goon rather than the actual Joker. Welp

  • Wiley

the issue with the hahaha's is they have too much work put into them but they are trying to look deranged like something scribbled on a wall... they shouldn't look so well done. I would have preferred had they been upside down as if they were written by him and read from his perspective.

who cares though, I don't like most of this look.

  • Frag Monger

    Where are his mouth scars?

  • kevin

I hate Jared Leto so much.

  • MustacheHam

He kind of looks like one of those crazy punk geek college students who's into unusual art and parkour.

  • archer923

This Joker does exist in the comics. It's based off one. He has done all this before. The thing is. These comics aren't liked much. Half the time they had bad writing.

  • the antagonist

Maybe it's intentional, but everything about this Joker looks so 90's. I'm not stoked, but I'm withholding final judgement.

  • A simple fix-up in good old Photoshop should do the trick:

  • Richelle Howes

Much better than the angsty shit storm above...

  • FearlessFarris

That was simple?? Admittedly, I don't know very much about Photoshop, but it looks like that project took some real time and effort.

    It's a neat rendition, though.

  • I've been using Photoshop for 20 years, so there's that. ;)
It's mostly smoke and mirrors for stuff like this, finding similar images, changing the color and then cloning out the tats.
Thanks for the nice compliments though. :)

The teeth make sense if this is a later incarnation of the character if they are because Batman knocked them out of his head after Joker killed Robin. But I hate all of this. He looks like some sort of gangbager.. wtf. He had better not talk like some sort of uneducated thug.. What a waste of a movie budget. I'd rather see Nick Cage as Superman. Thankfully, nobody would EVER be stupid enough to even attempt that. Oh they did? WHAT IS THIS BIZARRO WORLD???

  • Ed

Look's like they are trying to make this Joker "their own;" the director, actor, whoever. But, I just don't think the Joker is the kind of guy who sits still for tattoos. And they're not very funny. In fact it looks like he took the art from Batman comics, which is strange because where would the Joker get those? In conclusion the damaged tattoo is stupid, The Joker is a character who communicates his insanity through his actions; he is nuanced, doesn't need a vanity label on his head to express himself, and wouldn't have one.

i hope it's better in context.

I was never against Leto's casting. I think he's completely fine as an actor, and can pull it off, but that doesn't mean making him look like a neon version of that Riff Raff guy. Wait, he's already neon with those clothes he wears. Regardless, we all know different iterations of the Joker bring along new visual interpretations. But this is one that goes against the Joker's core character. Yes, he can be ironic. Yes, we know he's insane. But we also know that the Joker also sees himself as the epitome of beauty. He's wholly obsessed with his looks and appearance. A tattoo needle would never be even within five feet of him, it's not something he'd do. Even having him cut his own face off in New 52 is closer to the actual character.

  • jrose

"He's wholly obsessed with his looks and appearance." I could say the same for anyone who covers themselves with tattoos.

That said, this photo makes the Joker look like a total poser.

  • Sashman1234 .

I had doubt when Ledger played the Joker and he was awesome. So I wait and see the movie. This Joker Looks scary. Could be great. Could be horrible. Too early to tell.

  • Elak Swindell

As Mr. Horse would say, "No sir, I don't like it." This is not The Joker. It's just an insane person who "wishes" to him. The well known character portrayed brilliantly in two live action films and the animated awesomeness by Mark Hamill, is definitely a certifiably crazy individual, but also highly intelligent with a strong sense of style, dark humor and kills for the fun of it (like only an insane person would do). He isn't self loathing or just purely crazy, like Leto looks. Also, the teeth are terrible. Joker loves his maniacal smile. Those pearly whites of his make the crazy smile all the more better. As for the tats, they are ugly and redundant. Joker isn't some nutso gangsta or hitman who loves pain. Other than the wide insane smile, Joker loves to laugh in the face of danger. So, putting Hahahaha on his body is stupid. Is he trying to remind himself to laugh? Same goes for the Cheshire Cat smile one. Again, is this to make him remember to do it? And the "Damaged" tat is silly. Any who knows the character already has a bit of his history in their recall, so they know he is damaged goods. No, the Suicide Squad Joker should look like himself, not a hoodlum.

  • the antagonist

My problem with the tattoos is they're way too literal, like beating you over the head obvious. (And it's cheesy to make them focal point.) I couldn't conceive of the Joker doing something so overt and transparent, unless maybe for the sake of irony.

  • Oh hey guys its the new Joker!

And just in case you didn't know, HES CRAZY! We weren't sure people would get it, so we gave him all these crazy tattoos and made him open his mouth really wide and open his eyes really wide so you would understand just how CRAZY HE IS!

Oh yeah, and hes wearing 1 rubber glove because hes so CRAZY! Only someone who is CRAZY would wear one rubber glove, have all those CRAZY tattoos and have some grey metal fronts on his teeth, amiright?! Cuz hes CRAZY!!!!

Hes so crazy he has the word "Damaged" tattooed on his forehead, and we all know that nobody but a CRAZY person would do that, amiright?! Wow this is all just so CRAZY!!!

In lieu of any real acting we just made him look crazy so people would understand the character better just by looking at him because in modern film people are too impatient, too stupid and too lazy to understand things like nuance and character development played out in things like words or actions in a film, they need things to be brightly colored and, literally, spelled out for them, like a tattoo that says "Damaged" on someones forehead.

derp derp derp, its so CRAZY!

  • FearlessFarris

Keep in mind that this is not a "Joker" movie... it's a Suicide Squad
movie, about a team of super villains. Now think of that in terms of
cinematic considerations. The Joker has to share the screen with a
half-dozen other outrageous supervillains, some of whom are bigger,
scarier, stronger, bearing weapons, etc. The film makers needed to do
something to make the viewers' eye follow the Joker character on screen,
while visually hammering home how (of all the villains on screen) this villain is the most crazy and least predictable.

  • Yeah I get that, but all those things can be conveyed in performance, script and directing. Which leads me to believe this is just going to be a stupid ass spectacle that's overblown and dumb to the point where it needs to hit the audience over the head to make its point. Some movies use a scalpel (Ledger), other use a dull blunt object (Bay), I prefer a more precise approach personally.

That's the thing though, in the old stuff The Joker was never called out to be "insane" by normal metrics.

Of course, he was criminally insane, but other than that and being a compulsive liar he was actually perfectly sane, disturbingly sane for someone with such a complete disregard for morality and human life. Add to that an IQ of 160, nothing left to lose, and everything to prove and BLAM! You've got The Joker, in all his glory.

That being said. I personally see The "Actual" Joker doing himself up like this without a second thought. It's just like him to be ironic.

Then again, I really didn't like the most recent movies, or any Batman movies (that weren't animated) for that matter. So feel free to disregard everything I say that of a heretic who actually likes comics.

  • Izy Betancourt

Joker is not Insane, he is a Sociopath.
