Miyazaki Inspired Walk-On-All-Fours Stilt Costumes

These are the 'stilt spirit' costumes designed by Melissa Irwin and her husband Garen for Halloween 2010 and inspired by The Dark Crystal and Hayao Miyazaki's spirit characters. You can buy step-by-step instructions to make your own at Melissa's Etsy store HERE ($10). Or you can save yourself $10 and just freeball it. Still, you know what the scariest quadrupedal costumes would be? The Wheelers from Return To Oz. I posted a video of them after the jump if you've never seen them because those f***ers are SCARY. Actually, that whole movie is terrifying. I don't think it should have even been made. Or at least not shown to children. I've spent actual on-the-clock time talking to my therapist about it. She called me a sissy.

Keep going for a video of these costumes in action, then the Wheelers from Return to Oz.

Thanks to Margarita, who I could really gone for one of right now. Or two. Or a pitcher. Deal, two pitchers.

The Dark Crystal is a movie co-directed from Frank Oz and Jim Henson, it uses muppets like actors and it doesn't have anything in common with Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli.

omg the wheelers used to SCARE me as a kid, too. and what was up with the woman who would remove her head and put on a new one?! how did our parents let us watch that movie!

I mean...being inspired by The Dark Crystal and/or Miyazaki is great, but I find it a bit of a stretch. They really don't scream Ghibli to me. Cool costumes, though

Maybe inspired by Ghibli things like the noface and Deer God

  • Tyguy

    yeah....like I said, that's a stretch. Maybe the faces needed a more Ghibli-esque appearance.
