Dreams Really Do Come True: A Sailor Moon Wedding

January 6, 2015

This is a series of photos by photographer Shannon Cottrell of the Sailor Moon themed wedding between Michelle Nguyen and her now husband. I don't really know a lot about Sailor Moon because my mom never let me watch it because she was afraid I'd fall in love with a cartoon character (I'd done it before), but I do appreciate the theme. When I get married? I'm leaning towards a Indiana Jones themed wedding. Specifically, the human sacrifice scene from Temple Of Doom. I'll have the priest dressed up like Mola Ram, then he'll rip my heart out and dump me in a pit of lava and that will be that. I will honeymoon alone in hell. Was that too bitter? I feel like that might have sounded bitter.

Keep going for a bunch more shots.

Thanks to PYY, who agrees the coolest wedding theme is wuv -- twue wuv.

I just wanna know where she got that staff! I collect replica weapons from movies and games (well, my husband and I do) and I would LOVE to add something like that to my collection. It would pretty much make my whole life.

You understand this is a Sailor Moon themed wedding right? You shouldn't have even thought for a second there would be a bridesmaid in the bunch that you'd wanna show your 'sailor' to. But on the other hand, this is the internets, I can bet there's a bunch of dudes commenting here the bridesmaids wouldn't touch with a ten foot poll. So, you know, its a give and take.

  • The groom should have at least worn a Top hat to look like Tuxedo mask

  • GeneralDisorder

Yep. Tuxedo done lost his mask or something.

  • A cute wedding, love it! There is just one thing I wish to see, Tuxedo Mask getting married to Sailor Moon.

  • Heather

Yeah. It's definitely unexpected to see a Sailor Moon themed wedding without Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask not being the focal point. That's what I expected to see when I opened up the link. On the other hand, though, I guess that's just not what the bride and groom saw themselves doing. I still think it looks absolutely lovely. If I were in their position, I'd do things a little differently, but that's the beauty of a wedding! : )

"yarrrgh not a looker in the bunch"

  • dougfunnay

why couldnt they just get together and play dress up and not cheapen their relationship with legally binding documentation and associating it with crazy shallow bs like sailor moon that in no way defines them as a person

  • Heather

How is this theme any different from any other theme? I've seen Alice in Wonderland themes, winter themes, a very expertly done Little Mermaid theme. I've seen Beetle Juice themes, moons and stars themes, under the sea themes. There's Hawaii themes (to put that in context, I lived in Northern Michigan at the time). Just because this theme is from a cartoon, it doesn't cheapen it any more than any other theme. It meant something to them, and I can see that a lot of thought went into it. Just because you don't see it, it doesn't really matter, since they didn't get married for your amusement and thus are not subject to your opinion of their theme.

    its not
and youre a petty shallow fool

The Groom's best man has long hair dyed SILVER. However, the Groom is not even wearing a tuxedo mask mask. Did they even give this wedding any thought?

  • the groomsman always has his hair dyed silver. It wasn't done for the wedding. This is not a cosplay wedding. Much thought was given to what elements they wanted to use for their personal enjoyment since this wedding was for them, not the internet.

  • dougfunnay

oh in that case i totally believe you and this is awesome

  • dougfunnay

    probably not
this was about getting attention not paying attention

  • Keith Gibbons

I remember Sailor Moon and her friends being much less...unfortunate looking?

  • McGarnagle

I remember them having long spindly arms and legs like spiders, dinner plate-sized eyes, and near non-existent noses, so not really I think.

  • Keith Gibbons

They should have stuck with their original "The Hills Have Eyes" wedding theme.

    "Buzz.....your bridal party......WOOF."

  • Andrew Newton

Sailor Mars and Mercury are cuties (which is also the case in the Manga/Anime), so at least that part is accurate.
