Stop Right There, Ewok: Walking Teddy Bear Dog Costume

November 10, 2014

This is Munchkin the Shih Tzu in her custom-made walking teddy bear costume. It was made from an actual teddy bear. Want to make your own? You're in luck! Locked in a cell with a man who wants to kill you? You're in prison! (PROTIP: Make a knife, pronto)

Measure your dog in the front from feet to top of head (Munchkin is 14″). Buy a teddy bear in similar color to your dog in their size (I got hers on Amazon for $30). Cut the face off, cut the bottom of the feet off, cut open the back. Take all the stuffing out except for the arms. Bear only goes on front part of their body/legs and back half is exposed. Put a string or velcro through the back behind the neck to tie/close. The bear's arms hung down, so I sewed them up a bit higher so they stuck out to sides more instead of hanging down. Took me maybe 15 minutes to make!

Not bad! Unfortunately, my dog hates wearing costumes. Or her collar. She likes to live life naked, just like her papa. I make her wear a collar though because it has her name and my phone number on it in case she gets lost, which I don't even want to think about. What can I say, I'm a delicate flower. Jk jk, I'm the enchanted rose from Beauty and the Beast. Kidding again, I'm a magic beanstalk.

Keep going for a couple more shots and a short video.

Thanks to meredith, Buttonhole and Lizzy, who have always dreamed of having real-life Snuggle bears in their lives.
