16-Year Old Japanese Drummer Girl Tearing It Up

November 17, 2014

This is a video of 16-year old Japanese drumming sensation Senri Kawaguchi tearing up her drum set to a background tape track. It gets even more intense towards the end. Now I'll be the first to admit I'm not very good at telling if a musician is particularly good or not, but I'm pretty sure Senri is amazing. I really could have used her when I was trying to beat Rock Band. Only for the vocals though, nobody gets to drum but me. I three-starred a song on hard once, I'm just saying.

Keep going for the video.

Thanks to Pheobs, who used to know a kid who would drum on his desk at school with two pencils and always get sent to the principal's office. That was John Bonham.

it's Japan. She's probably been practicing since she was 2. Not putting her down, she's good, just sayin' she's likely had about 10-14 years practice already.

Poor 'reporting' by LaughingSquid. Senri Kawaguchi is only 14 years old per a recent post on her twitter account. Makes this even more amazing.

She looks 10. Impressive none the less.

She is the Chosen One that will take us to the Promised Land

  • I always wanted to be a drummer but I could never get the drum pedals down. I have no clue how this girl with what appears to be no calf muscles can do this. I'm so impressed I'm actually kind of annoyed. Thanks again Japan. Your rubiks cube solving 3 year olds weren't enough?

She does have the skills that kills, but double bass drum pedals and syncopated triplets (not a Canadian prog rock band from 1978) will always sound much more impressive than they technically are. Speed is good. So is sharpness, plus killer smile. Nice vid.
