Oculus Rift Experience Synced With Roller Coaster

September 12, 2014

This is a demo of an Oculus Rift virtual reality system that's been synced with a roller coaster to give the rider an entirely different experience. In this case, riding in a flying chariot being pulled by a winged horse. There's also an outerspace experience. Both look intense. So, what do you say -- if you puke while in virtual reality, did it really happen? "Yes." But you don't know that. "Yes, I do." Fine, then you sit behind me on the roller coaster and we'll prove it together.

Keep going for the video, but skip to around 1:50 for the action.

Thanks to SnowMonkey, who learned the hard way why they tell you to keep your arms inside the coaster at all times and now has to have all his bananas peeled for him.

    slowly we are getting there:

Pac Man looks more realistic than those games. Until this rift deal takes off with PS4-like graphics, it isn't going anywhere fast.

  • ClamDiggins

its independent of game platforms.. its an accesory, if a company wants to make their ps4 game work with it it can work with it, it would work with xbox, pc, nintendo, its just a fancy monitor. its not tied to a specific platform.

  • Jenness

The hyper-realistic ones I think could be made to be so terrifying and for Halloween, forget about it, you could literally go from just a scary ride to turning your head the person next to you is a zombie...hahahahha OMG so many ways to have fun with this!

Im not saying I would roofie the chick next to that guy but I would totally roofie the chick next to that guy.

  • The average redhead? I'd save my roofies.

there needs to be a whole theme park filled with these things, you rent them out by the hour or day and you can pick what "world" you would like to go to.

"Do NOT remove the VR goggles mid-rollercoaster-ride!"
    *removes VR goggles mid-ride*
This is just a moving platform!

  • Frédéric Purenne

I'm surprised this is not already an option on most rides. Like the "pay line" for the ride with occulus rift.

  • ClamDiggins

health issues are a problem with that, even at pax when they were displaying the rift for people to use there was an outbreak of pink eye, you would need to sanitize every pair on a regular basis. thats why theaters use disposable 3d glasses

The technology is still not stablished and have some issues. I bet that once it become more mainstream we will have indoor rides with the VR googles incorporated in the car.

  • Nick As Himself

oh man, brings new meaning to "rail shooter"
