Chevrolet Silverado 'Apocalypse Ready' Black Ops Concept

October 2, 2013

On display at the currently happening State Fair of Texas (where else?), Chevrolet exhibited this Silverado 'Black Ops Concept'. What makes it so apocalypse ready? Hopefully more than just the custom graphics and yellow accents like I suspect.

"Luck favors the prepared and the Silverado Black Ops concept is a survival kit on four wheels," Chevy design manager Dave Ross said in a statement.

The Black Ops features a raised suspension and body armor to help it traverse the post-apocalyptic wasteland, and winch in case the wasteland gets the better of the truck.

In the bed is a (presumably) zombie-proof Truck Vault storage unit, containing a solar power pack, gas masks, gloves, a military First Aid kit, a folding shovel, and rope. Mounted atop the storage locker are a generator, fuel can, and food and water rations.

I mean, I guess it's a little better than a Volvo station wagon. But honestly, you know what I wanna be riding in the event of an apocalypse? The giant fire-breathing dragon that set the whole world ablaze in the first place. MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I warned you.

Hit the jump for a couple more shots, including a truckbed full of Twinkies and Ramen (a must for any apocalypse, the Rapture excluded).

Thanks to Cameron, who agrees if there's an apocalypse you want to driving something that can get you to the moon.

No room for the Mad Max bike? What a loser truck!

Man, this is bullshit. US Special Forces had the real deal in Iraq. They had Ford F-150s with a modified passenger cabin (the seating was arranged in a diamond, instead of 2 in the font and 2 in the back, so that the driver was centre, each door had a gunner, and the guy in the back was facing the rear of the truck so he could fire a mounted machine gun), with enhanced suspension and a suped-up engine.

That sounds awesome! I couldn't find any info on it though, links?

My bad, it was the Ford F-350. Link here:

  • Those are great. I also like the Gurkha from Terradyne Unfortunately I think the only consumer level vehicle is the modified Gurkha, the Conquest Knight

I think I'd want the water and food in the "zombie proof" storage unit, personally more important than a shovel and rope...

When the apocalypse gets here, my first priority will definitely be a 10 MPG vehicle with decals that look like a robot's idea of mud splashes. Not, y'know, food and weapons or anything silly like that.

Where are the M60 and the sawed-off shotgun?!
