I Must Live There: 'My Neighbor Totoro' House Built IRL

August 8, 2013

This is a real life reproduction (complete with furnished interior!) of Satsuki and Mei's house from 'My Neighbor Totoro'. Apparently it was built back in 2005 For the World's Fair near Nagoya, Japan and was designed by Hayao Miyazaki's son Gorō. Dammit, why didn't anybody tell me it's been around for so long? I could have already been living there for a while now. But nooooooooo, I'm holed up in a windowless studio apartment where the landlord doesn't even bother to give me a heads up before they fumigate. Now I feel like I'm mutating. And not in a good way like the ninja turtles, in a bad way like whoa, where did all these penises come from? I was totally cool with just the one. Two tops.

Hit the jump for a tour of the whole thing.

Thanks to CC, who plans to go hunting the house for soot sprites.
