Stop, Just Stop: DARPA's Latest Killer Humanoid Robot

July 12, 2013

Remember DARPA and Boston Dynamic's PETMAN? Well now they're back with a new humanoid robot, Atlas. Atlas is the evolved version of this prototype I posted awhile ago. Can he take a 20-lb medicine ball to the hip and keep his balance? Yes. Is he arc-reactor powered? It sure looks like it. Is the Atlas of today the Terminator of tomorrow? *shaking Magic 8-Ball* Weird -- it says, Courtesy is contagious. "That's because you just opened a fortune cookie." Dammit, I always get these things confused.

Hit the jump for the video, but skip to 0:45 to get to the action.

Thanks to Pyrblaze, who's convinced in the future we'll all live underground and only come to the surface in small groups on missions to sabotage the Terminator factories.

Anybody else think this one looks like Hector from Saturn 3? I think it's the muscular forms on the legs and the comedy-tiny head.

Stay away from it, Mr Keitel: it might steal your face.

All I could think of while watching this video: "There has to be better music to go with this footage."
