ROLL IT: Vintage Volkswagen Crumpled Into A Sphere
This is the 1953 Volkswagen Beetle exterior that was crumpled into a sphere by Indonesian artist Ichwan Noor. I think we can all agree it makes a powerful statement about how fun it would be to push that thing down a hill.
He got his idea of this piece from his personal perception that objects are products of a "transportation culture," which induced hints and signs of spiritual emotion.
For this sculpture / installation, real parts from VW Beetle '53 is used as raw materials, and combined with aluminium and polyester to form this majestic sphere measuring 180 x 180 x 180 cm.
Great, now I want a sphere car. And by sphere car I mean one of those flying bubble cars from The Jetson's. *puts hand up for a high-five* Awwwww yeah, somebody around here knows what I'm talking about! Right? Somebody. Somebody in here is going to give me a high-five. No? Screw it, I'm taking this high-five OUTSIDE, somebody will appreciate it. You sir -- high-five if you love boobs.
Hit the jump for a couple more shots.
Thanks to Ethan, who agrees it would have been weird if that was the boulder that was chasing Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
