Awww: Squirrel Who Lost Front Legs In Trap Gets Wheels

April 11, 2018

squirrel-on-wheels.jpg

This is a video about Karamel the squirrel, who had to have her front legs amputated (in two different surgeries, one lasting six hours) after getting caught in an animal trap in Batman, Turkey. There's a Batman in Turkey! Now Karamel has a custom wheeled prosthesis, which appears to be partly the axle and wheels from a toy car. She lives with Tayfun Demir in Istanbul, who had already taken in another rescue squirrel previously. Happy endings. The story of my life? That ending will probably not be so happy, just like the rest of the book. I don't even like the cover.

Keep going for the video, as well as a longer one of Tayfun discussing the prosthesis's design (in Turkish) with some footage at the end of Karamel running around his place (skip to 5:50 for that).

Thanks to Stephanie B and K Diddie, who agree compassionate people are the best people.

And all I can think of is this...

  • Guesticle

he figured out how to get around pretty fast, but I'm not sure wheels were the best choice for this one

  • GeneralDisorder

The only response this event warrants is a better squirrel trap.

  • Douchy McDouche

You know, that Batman guy sounds like a real jerk!

  • John

It's a fucking squirrel, why not just end it's misery?

  • Jenness

I love animals but squirrel meat is really good and pretty sure there are people that would better benefit from free surgery and innovative prosthetics more.

  • Irina Abramovich

Good thinking, Jenness! Your prosthetic vagina on wheels (!) surgery is time better spent to look like lesbian having sex with a cremated wheelchair than a tiny best friend of nature getting a second chance at life. If I were you, I’d die from breast cancer.=)

    <3 me!

Hubree: Thanks for always being perfect at everything and for loving tuna.=)
    Irina: Great Ana-buddies stick together.

By Grabthar's hammer.... What a burn!

  • asdfadfs

I somehow doubt it costs the same either way

  • The_Wretched

40cents vs tens of thousands of dollars.

  • WhiteEagle2

The way its running around, it almost seems like it would do just as well with some springy pegs strapped to its chest.

  • Wooder

So now this squirrel is better off been cat/dog/snake/spider/pissed off hamster bait! WTF!

  • Guesticle

what even are you trying to say

  • The_Wretched

Euthanasia is an ok thing, especially for wild life which is entirely stressed out by the things being done to it.

  • Andyman7714

Yes, despite the "AW" factor, it would have probably been better to put the squirrel down. I can't imagine the stress it is going through. It's not like it's being returned to it's natural habitat.

  • Guesticle

no u. not like you're in your natural habitat either. it's better this way ;)

  • Fartbutt

Yeah I definitely wouldn't want to see a giant russian touching me every day and strapping wheels to my body

  • Douchy McDouche

Because Turkey is in Russia. Reading and geography are hard, huh little buddy?

  • Fartbutt

...that doesn't mean there aren't giant russians in turkey ya blind idiot

  • Bling Nye

Squirrel could do a mean T. rex impersonation. Missed opportunity there.
