The Evolution Of Window's Startup Sound From Windows 95 To Windows 10

Oh, memories.

This is a short animation created by Youtuber 4096 (who's just a number) showing the evolution of the Windows startup screen and sounds from Windows 95 to Windows 10. Man, it's kind of weird to think Windows has actually gone backwards 85 versions in that amount of time. "You're not the sharpest tool in the shed, are you, GW?" There's a shed?! I've spent my whole life just out rusting in the field.

Keep going for the video. And for the record, Windows 2000 Professional was my favorite.

Thanks to n0nentity, who agrees the best computer sound is slamming a laptop shut on a Friday afternoon.

What about the TA-DAA! sound? Was that from Windows 3.0? ::YouTubing:: Nope, Windows 3.1. ...I'm older than the sun and twice as radioactive.

How's it going, Grandpa? No, I kid, I'm about to turn 39, I remember that shit, too

One of the first things I did when I got a new computer or reinstalled Windows for the third time that month... Disable sounds.

Where was Windows ME? We just going to forget that version existed, huh?

They left out Windows Vista also, both for good reasons.

  • I was disappointed in that.
    Also 3.11 for workgroups
    Please insert disc 5

Holy cow. That Windows XP startup sound just throttled me right back into high school/college. The nostalgia I am now experiencing is overwhelming.

Windows 98 did that for me. Reminds me of my first laptop that was actually mine, and not some shared family commodity. And also that feeling after spending two hours on the phone with Gateway tech support of "thank all that is good that my computer is finally working again!"

    RIGHT??

NT 4.0 w/ SP6 was a tank. Loved that OS.
