Beautiful Timelapse Of A Cargo Ship's Month-Long Journey At Sea

September 13, 2017

cargo-ship-timelapse.jpg

This is a 4K timelapse video created from the 80,000 photographs taken by Youtuber JeffHK during a cargo ship's month-long journey through "the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, the Indian Ocean, and the South East China Sea, and countless ports where cargo containers were hurriedly offloaded and restocked." Thirty days of travel was condensed into ten minutes. Beautiful, isn't it? It was almost enough to make me want to-- "Quit your job and sail the world as a pirate captain?!" Okay well I was going to say find a witch to turn me into a cargo container, but I like your idea even more.

Keep going for the video while I realize that even if I did find a witch to turn me into a cargo container, I'd probably get placed in the bottommost hold of the boat where I can't see anything, then we hit an iceberg and I drown in the dark.

Thanks to Brad H, who was just happy to see nobody go overboard.

I was mesmerized! This is fantastic and love the music. We truly live on a beautiful planet.

Mesmerizingly beautiful! Thank you for sharing this with us!

    Absolutely beautiful

  • Leo Salcedo

this was really interesting. thx for making this.

  • Jenness

This was one of the only things I've watched straight through and was not bored at all. Absolutely breathtaking!

If you're lucky enough to get this far away from light pollution, the sky is f**king incredible. The one time I experienced it, it actually left me speechless. When I first looked up and noticed, it was like being punched in the chest... by something beautiful.

  • Some guys spend top dollar to get punched by something beautiful.

    Just sayin.

  • I'd do it for free.

  • Jason Christopher

    That's a damn good point.

    The safety word is "banana."

  • Big Dog on Krampus

you never really think about there being boat traffic at sea, but there were quite a bit of ships when they started getting closer to port

  • GeneralDisorder

The estimated total mass of all fish life in the ocean is less than the total mass of all ships in the ocean.

  • Big Dog on Krampus

    not surprising

  • FearlessFarris

Wow that was really neat. For every ten thousand cat videos or mindless YouTube personality videos the internet produces, it produces one or two real gems like this. Spectacular.

  • GeneralDisorder

This sort of time lapse is its own entire genre. I'm digging it.

A part of me considered abandoning my family to work on boats but then I remembered the ocean is scary and I hate boats.

  • FearlessFarris

This does kind of romanticize the idea of working on a ocean cargo vessel. I'm sure in reality it's super slow and boring, up until it becomes terrifying in a large storm.

I'm sure the crew guys who work these ships for a living are a very interesting sort of person.

  • Jenness

    Agree completely.
