Smooth: Speeding Boaters Almost Hit Kayaker, Veer Onto Land To Avoid Collision

August 25, 2017

Note: A couple f-bombs, be sure to watch at full volume.

This is a video from Australia of a kayaker doing some peaceful fishing on Ross Creek in Queensland, Australia when a group of boaters come speeding by and have to veer onto land to avoid hitting him. In his own words while I post my kayak on Craigslist:

This is what happens when people don't take care in their boat! I completely understand the enjoyment from clowning around. But, there is a time and a place. It is never okay to travel at this speed in narrow water, especially when you don't know what's ahead!

This could have ended in significant tragedy. Thankfully the boat veered to avoid me, but they could have been seriously injured themselves.

Slow down and take care on the water!

Slow down -- that's great advice. Except for the old lady driving in front of me, she needs to speed up. *honking, yelling out window* THE SIDEWALK IS FOR PASSING, GRANDMA.

Keep going for the video.

Thanks to Davey W, who agrees Australia is already dangerous enough without lunatic boaters trying to kill you.

I bet they then went and blamed the kayaker. "look what you made me do ya dumb cunt!"

Is there an Aussie equivalent of the Duke boys? 'Cause looks like them boys are at it again...

  • Darren McCoy

    Didn't spill a drop.

Aussies. Probably liquefied on XXXX Gold.

    Nationality =/= Ethnicity =/= Race

Failing to find the humor in something funny =/= not finding humor in something not funny. You have to realize at some point that we all need to understand some things, and that by making light of things that others take seriously, we are causing detriment to them, ourselves, and society. Perpetuating misconceptions and blatant ignorance is one such problem. I fully realize your post was meant in jest, but just like joking about rape, joking about racism should stop if anything's ever going to change for the better.

Fuck it, I'm not trying to police comments or any shit, but I've decided in all aspects of my life, 'if you see something, say something'... because, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." -Edmond Burke.

    Cheers.

  • "You have to realize [...] by making light of things that others take seriously, we are causing detriment to them, ourselves, and society. " - Back the FUCK off. YOU have to realize that you Leftist fucktards who are so desperate to control the speech, thoughts, and beliefs of others are the ACTUAL ones doing by far the most damage to our society, you pathetic whimpering, limp-wristed little bitch.

Alright, you know what? I'm done. You are a pathetic virtue-signaling little bitch with an insatiable desire to control others that you mask as "fighting evil". Stroke your massive ego somewhere else, you little bitch, I'm done. I'll say whatever the fuck I want. Just because YOU'VE decided to replace your sincere pursuit of virtue with nothing but the appearance of virtue, that doesn't give you the right to police everyone else's comments. Fuck your feelings, and fuck your belief that your feelings get to dictate the speech of others.

I hope the men that you let fuck your wife turn around and rape you too, you worthless little shit.

    Cheers! :-D

You gotta get a fucking grip man... I'm not wanting to control shit, I'm just pointing out ignorant bullshit when I see it, instead of walking on by, so maybe someone else doesn't step in it. "Be the change you wish to see in the world." -Ghandi, who you probably also think is a "limp-wristed little bitch".

By all means, say what you want, think what you want; free speech man, but freedom to say what you want doesn't protect you from the impact of your words.

Given your response, it's clear you feel strongly about being called out for making a stupid fucking "joke"... maybe you're embarrassed by it? Maybe not. Your response ought to embarrass you though. Thoroughly unhinged. "Triggered, snowflake?" ought to be my short response, maybe the tl;dr, amiright? Seems it should be if I followed your playbook.

You don't like it when people point out your ignorance? Whine about how I want to control you, attack me, call me a leftist fucktard, limp wristed little bitch, call it virtue signaling and imply I'm being cheated on by my wife. Goooooooooooooooooooooood argument.

Politics and religion, we ought to keep them off a geek blog, huh?

Maybe I hit a nerve, maybe you've just had a really shitty fucking week and this was just the shit cherry on your shit pile week. If so, I hope it turns around for you and you have a great weekend. Seriously.

While we're being "real" here, I'm actually far more central than left or right, you might be surprised. Or maybe what I've always thought was middle-of-the-road shifted out from under me when the right went absofuckinglutelybatshitfuckingbonkers the last couple of years. Either way. If you think about it, shouldn't the right ALSO be calling out stuff like racism..........? Why is it I'm branded leftest for saying what I did? Why don't conservatives stand up too? But I digress.

Maybe go have a beer in the sun and relax if you can. Stop thinking about the political climate today and its terrifying similarities to pre-WW2 Germany. I think that's what I'm gonna do.

    Cheers.

Ya'know... you really shouldn't have brought Gandhi into this... He was racist.

    https://www.theguardian.com...

  • Bling Nye

Interesting, and disappointing, but also an example of the fact that nobody's perfect. Does Gandhi being racist early in his life negate the teaching of his later life? Do people not grow and change? Can we not all learn from mistakes and become better people than we were? That's kind of the point, I think.

  • TheGreatestTrick

I would tend to agree... And just for the record, my post was intended to show just ho ridiculous all this has become. (By this, I mean the political back-and-forth that masquerades as "current events" these days).

I think we should just ban sensitivity. Too many overly sensitive people in the world today. And taking it to a personal level, I wouldn't know how to talk to my friends if there weren't jibs and jabs being bandied about constantly!

CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Bling Nye

It's become quite ridiculous, I agree.

  • Brian

I've had a rough week my own self, but your classy and thoughtful posts on this dumb video have honestly and sincerely cheered me up some. I don't know you at all, but it seems like there are fewer folks like you around, and more partisan idealogues than ever. It's nice to see.

  • Bling Nye

I just want people to to use their brains and be empathetic of others. Use reason, rationality, common sense, and make decisions based on input from a variety of sources; people need to get out of the damn echo chambers. I just wish we could all treat each other with kindness and compassion.

Ain't ever gonna happen across the board, but even a little bit is good. More is better.

    Cheers

  • Adibobea9

You are all unhinged at this point and the problem with society. The racist joke at the beginning was fine and no harm done. But now both of you are acting really stupid…

  • Brian

My first instinct here was to respond with snark. But I don't think that's useful, so I'll try something else. First, man, calling people names and accusing them of being the singular source of societies ills is unlikely to convince anybody of anything. I may or may not be wrong about any given thing, and I want to be better, so I'm open to being convinced. Calling me unhinged, etc., suggests that you don't want to discuss, you want to fight. That's fine, but I don't. Also, we can both be reasonable people and disagree about whether or not jokes about racism are appropriate but we can't both be reasonable when one of us is calling the other unhinged. And while fully aware that I'm as flawed a person as anyone, when it comes to matters of public policy and personal practice, I try to err on the side of compassion and agency for the most people. In the absence of literally any arguments at all for your position, I will continue to do so. Lastly, you seem angry and I sincerely hope you feel better.

    Edited for Spelling.

  • Adibobea9

Brian, I reacted to the two that were unhinged and had already started the war of words with crazy accusations. Although you commented before I began, I can see the confusion as I simply replied to your comment, but it was in reference to the other two. You are completely the opposite of them and I wish you well…

  • Bling Nye

So, I guess calling someone unhinged is the same level of crazy as an expletive laden tirade that attacks not just me but also my spouse? Sounds like the whole, 'many fine people on both sides' BS. False equivalency. Also guessing you haven't been the target of racism personally if you think a racist joke is fine... 'No harm done,' ...to whom?

I try to be civil. Sometimes it's hard. Sometimes it's not.
