Man Captures Glowing Blue Energy Arc During Massive Hailstorm

This is video from Dayton, Ohio of a man filming a recent wind and hail storm when he inadvertently captures an arc of blue ionized energy traveling down a powerline. How exciting. I didn't read the video description at first and just assumed they were police car lights, and was left wondering why this was a video anyone would bother uploading to Youtube, before I remembered the other 99/100ths of videos on Youtube.

Keep going for the video while I shuffle across the carpet in my socks and try to shock a coworker.

Thanks to MSA, who's convinced it was an alien visitation, which I also haven't ruled out.

Someone might want to check to make sure there isn't a Terminator out there somewhere.

You're on your own with that one.

  • If that's how it goes down when you actually see a spaceship hovering across the street I'd lose my shit, SO LOUD - wow - explanation please!?!?!?!

Well... you see... There's these metal wires that hang in the sky from poles. And those wires carry these angry pixie things that will really fuck up your day if you get too close.

When those pixies get too angry they make a lot of noise and bright light.

In this case it was a power surge caused by lightning that managed to arc through the air between the power lines and once that arc forms the amount of voltage needed to keep it going drops drastically (i.e. the ionized air molecules stop being a good insulator and become a resistor instead).

Eventually the air cools down and the arc will move to the path of least resistance until it can't sustain the arc anymore (this arc probably tripped a breaker or blew up a transformer).
