No Two Are Alike?: Snowflake Magnified 36,000x

March 9, 2017

snowflake-super-zoom.jpg

This is a picture detailing progressively stronger and stronger magnification of a snowflake until it reaches 36,000x. For reference, at 36,000x magnification your ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend's penis might be distinguishable, although unlikely. Seriously though, I learned a lot by looking at this. Mostly, that the closer you zoom, the more I imagine every snowflake actually does look the same, which is like the top of a whole-wheat sandwich.

Keep going for two videos of the snowflake, first zooming in, then out.

Thanks to 43115, who may or may not only be distinguishable by a barcode on the back of their neck.

  • With a magnification lense that powerful I wonder if I'd be able to find my dignity.

  • Or your penis.

Sorry! The internet is corrupting me :(.

  • Was going to go for the easy penis joke but figured I'd leave the lower hanging fruit for someone else.. ;-)

Looks like the dwarves from Middle Earth have a hand in snowflake micro-carving.

  • Jenness

One day we are going to do this so close that we see people on a super subatomic planet (like reaching super duper microscopically (whatever - you know what I mean) into a black hole singularity) having sex and then all of existence will explode into nothingness.

  • GeneralDisorder

I agree. Sex does destroy universes. Good thing they're a renewable resource.

  • Jenness

I meant more of the "we know too much" and not really the actual sex part - though at least they could come and go and the same time so there is that.

  • "Liked" for the completely superfluous mention of sex.
