Beautifully Shot Drone Video Footage Of Jetpack Flight

February 22, 2017

jetpack-video.jpg

This is a video of a man demonstrating a jetpack built by JetPack Aviation of California. It was shot predominately with a drone by Devin Supertramp and his crew, who always do a beautiful job. The only problem with these jetpacks (minus their bulkiness, incredibly short flight time, and cost) is that they sound like you're getting sprayed in the ears with a pressure washer. How am I supposed to get my James Bond on with a jetpack that everybody can hear from a mile away? Regardless, will I still be able to bed the Russian lady spy? You bet your ass I will! *woman speaking in Russian* I don't understand her, what did she say? "She said your penis is the size of nesting doll." Well that's not bad. "The last one inside." Man I thought spies were supposed to know how to keep secrets.

Keep going for the video.

Thanks to carey, who's inspired me to go into the jetpack muffler business.

Too bad it can only fly above water...

  • Jenness

I just have this feeling that any type of transportation system, even military, won't involve loose limbs dangling freely whipping around in the air but a pod people sit or stand in.

  • darelldd

Dunno. We still have people who regularly jump out of airplanes and choppers, dangling from big sheets of fabric without the benefit of a protective pod.

  • Jenness

That's because they are old fashioned and lame. New adventurers will want pods. Then suddenly a new generation of these space hipster douches will come around wanting bungee ropes again and everyone will just roll their eyes and say "WoooopDeeDoody you're so classic. Bet you spend your days complaining about self-driving cars, brain chip- implants and want to have sex with real humans and not perfect sex robots like God intended. What a freak"

  • Zachary Zarko

I want a pod with an aluminum fedora on top and a button that I can press that tips the hat and says, "Good afternoon m'lady." And if something triggers me, I can press the button faster as the fedora tipping intensifies.

  • Jenness

I absolutely adore this idea so much!

  • AtomicMountain

Why didn't Elon Musk develop THIS rather than those stupid battery-operated cars?!

  • darelldd

Elon's Jet Pack will be heading to Mars. AND he developed those frighteningly good battery cars. There is plenty of room for freakishly awesome companies, regardless of scale.

  • GeneralDisorder

I'm not normally one to say this sort of thing but "get off Elon's dick". Did you see the spaceX explosion? According to people smarter than me the explosion was caused by "problems that were solve decades before Elon was born".

And hyperloop... There's a steaming bag of bullfuck that's impractical at best. Idiotic at worst.

Maybe give up the idea of making hyperloop a "vacuum tube" and just make it a "covered railroad" then you have some potential.

  • darelldd

Well if nothing else, I enjoy the word-smithing. I'll endeavor to take your advice and do my level best to avoid getting mired in both the reality of what is happening, AND my happy bubble of optimism (during a time when I see much of the rest of my world turning to feces). cheers.

  • GeneralDisorder

Point of clarification I have a total man-crush on Elon and love the realistic projects he's backing. But he's falling for his own scam with the hyperloop.

  • darelldd

Understood. Here's my thing: Every time I've bet against Elon, I've lost. Every time I've bet for Elon, I've won. The cars and rockets are what I keep up with. The Hyperloop, not so much. All I know in that area is that we DO need a serious rethink on high-speed, public transportation. And Elon is certainly thinking about it. But... we're talking about jet-packs. Kerosene-burning, short-range personal transportation is not going to save humanity. But I'm invested in the company just the same because of what is to come from them...

  • GeneralDisorder

Let's just hope the Oxy-Kero jets don't explode on fueling like the SpaceX did...

  • darelldd

The move to electric packs can't come soon enough, and is already front-burner... so to speak.

  • GeneralDisorder

In general if you're using fuel plus oxidizer it's extremely dangerous.

  • darelldd

Still amazing to me: How comfortable we are with gasoline. With large tanks of the stuff, we're driving around other projectiles that are piloted by rank amateurs, we are parking the stuff in attached garages, and we are dispensing the stuff in open, publicly-accessible areas with almost no safe guards.

But yeah. Of course I agree about the dangers. And that's just one of the many reasons I want MY first personal flight pack to be electric.

  • GeneralDisorder

Gasoline makes a good fuel because it's fairly safe to handle in large volumes.

Natural gas on the other hand... is actually a gas. It is more flammable, it's more dangerous. It can leak and kill you without the help of fire. If there's one thing I'd like to ditch as a species it's natural gas.

  • darelldd

Gasoline sure tastes bad though! :-)

The NG industry got a big boost when it became a "green" fuel a few years back. CNG vehicles were allowed in the HOV lanes with the same acceptance as electric cars. Who knew that a fossil fuel would be treated so generously? All started with the great branding: Natural Gas. Who could complain about that? Has to be as good as Natural Flavor.
