The United States Of The Most Commonly Misspelled Search Word In Google

This is a map created by Google Trends showing the most commonly misspelled word used in Google search queries for each state. Really, desert? There's no excuse for that. Diarrhea I completely understand though -- I type it all the time but never spell it right, I just do my best and let spellcheck point me in the right direction. Also I love how Massachusetts can't even spell its own name. That reminds me of myself when I was a kid. A college kid. Why can't my name just be a smiley face or a cartoon penis with arms and legs?

Thanks to Jody, who just made me realize misspelled isn't spelled mispelled.

    I'm curious as to whether or not the states labeled with words that have multiple correct spellings were considered "incorrect" just because they were searched using an alternate spelling; although I doubt many people in the US would be searching for "diarrhoea."

    It's certainly a valid concern, especially since the generally accepted American English spelling is "canceled" and "grey" isn't solely used the UK.

    I guess it's just that I'd be less likely to wonder about the validity of this image if the "misspellings" listed were consistent with "correct" spellings in American English.

    Umm.... Hawaii is misspelled by Alaska. Boutineer is misspelled by Hawaii...
