'Liquid Marble', A Carved Table That Appears To Flow Like The Ocean As You Move Around It

October 13, 2016

This is a video of Liquid Marble, a table created by French designer Mathieu Lehanneur. Using 3D software developed for the film industry, Mathieu created a surface that appears to move like the ocean as a viewer's perspective changes. The table consists of a single block of marble that was machined to replicate the 3D model, then hand polished to a shine. The result is pretty impressive. And so is that room. Could you imagine having a room like that in your house? You'd probably feel like a princess, presumably because you are a princess. Tell your dad to knight me?

Keep going for a video of the perfect table to never rest a glass on.

Thanks to Laura B, who tried to tell me the moon is responsible for the ocean tides and not Poseidon. Suuuure, I'd like to you see you tell that to his trident.

Pretty. But pretty worthless as a table.... No where to set anything down.
    Table fail.

Maybe I would have to see it in person because I didn't see motion, I saw reflections do their thing, but that's it. What the hell is he going on about? I seriously never understand artists...

I want to know how much this thing weighs. I have a marble coffee table that someone gave my wife back when we first moved into an apartment and matching end tables. The coffee table slab weighs something like 60 pounds. And it's not a 6X8 slab with textures. It's about 3 feet long flat white marble.

  • That dude's putting waaay to much thoughtprocess into the fact that it's a goddamned useless table... Sheesh...

  • Jenness

I wish they would have just put the camera at a normal height angle and just walked around the table 360 degrees.

    M'eh.

  • ricktm

A table you can't put anything on, just what I was looking for!

  • Greg

Exact same first thought I had.

It looks awesome and if it's for display...well I guess the person who could afford it would have an entire spare room to display it in.

But, realistically, who would make use this thing?

  • Andyman7714

It comes with marble lifesaver coasters to put your beer bottle on.

  • Smokey

I don't know what kind of material it's carved from. But it's not marble.

  • bluecheesedressing

I couldn't finish the video, but that looks like Belgian black marble, it has almost no grain in many instances.

  • Andrew Newton

Perfect for your water based RPG sessions.

  • Meh

Muting the video - its pretty good.

  • Frédéric Purenne

OMG! I should have read your comment before watching the video. Now I watch to punch a random pretentious Parisian.
