Whee!: A Trip Down LA's 1,000-Foot High Glass Skyslide

June 28, 2016

Remember the Los Angeles skyscraper (the U.S. Bank Tower -- the tallest building west of the Mississippi River) that that was getting a glass slide from the 70th to the 69th floor, 1,000-feet above street level? Well that happened and now the SkySlide is open to the public. This is a video of a couple reporters riding the thing to break up the monotony of reporting on shootings and police chases. It's definitely scary if you're afraid of heights, and it's definitely an incredibly short ride unless you were just blasted with a shrink-ray. Access to the glass observation deck costs $25, and a ride down the 45-foot long slide an additional $8. Now I'm not saying you should save that money and go to Disneyland or Universal Studios, but Universal did just open Harry Potter World and, according to my most scientific calculations, it is the tits.

Keep going for the video.

Thanks to Rona, who agrees there should at least be a section with a missing glass panel you have to hop over.

When will they finish the rest of it?

I peed a little just from the screenshot... There's not enough nope to go around here. Now... strap a parachute on me and let my leap off? Yeah, ok. At least that way if I piss myself it won't be as embarrassing because I'm wearing a parachute narrowly avoiding death. Not going down a slide.

  • Now. NOW, I know how my wife feels. Duly noted... : /

I need context here because what I'm thinking is strangely arousing in the most terrible way.

  • It's probably as you think... High expectations, low runtime.
    Enough context?

  • GeneralDisorder

No. I was thinking you had a skyscraper for a penis. I'm... a little dense sometimes.

  • *Siiiigh* Yeah... At least it works- I guess. Father of two! ^_^

Like the new Geekologie website design :)

    I like your sarcasm.

(on a serious note, the font is amazing, the layout is not. Needs to be centered)

$8 after paying an outrageous $25 just to get access to the top? What a shameful rip-off. For $8 this slide should go all the way to the ground.

  • Wilf Smith

It could double as a fire escape if it went to the ground !

  • Jason Christopher

So, $33 for about 1.5 seconds of a slide? This thing should wrap around the building 4 times for that much.
