WTF Did I Just Watch?: The Ninja Turtle's 1990 Appearance On The Oprah Winfrey Show

This is a video of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and April O'Neil appearing on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 1990. The whole thing was pretty painful to watch, especially the songs they perform and the part around 24:20 when Oprah asks April if she likes any of the turtles more than the others, then asks the turtles if they wish April was a turtle. Things go downhill fast. Besides that, the whole thing was basically just a forty-five minute commercial for the franchise. Honestly, it made me not like the Ninja Turtles as much as I used to, which is a shame because I always dreamed of marrying Michelangelo and starting a beautiful family together in the sewers.

Keep going for 45-minutes of what the shit was that.

When Oprah was cool, still had at lease one foot grounded into reality...and not in far out space with those later 2k shows...and Turtles ROCK!!!

I saw this as a kid too. I actually forgot this happened. This is one of those "was this real life" moments for me. Not sure how I feel about my childhood anymore...

  • Oh my gosh!! I totally saw this when I was a kid! In the years since, I've doubted I actually saw this on TV, chalking it up to an over-active boyhood imagination (really? Seeing Oprah interview the TMNT?") It wasn't just a crazy fever-dream after all!!

    Thanks, GW!

  • I'm only a couple minutes in but this is hilarious so far. The overacting and all of that energy is pretty great to watch.

But uh, where are their shells? How can they have turtle power if they're not turtles in a half shell?

  • You didn't listen to the "Out of our Shells" song around the 4 minute mark? :-D
