Model X: Tesla Unveils A Gull-Wing Door Electric SUV

October 1, 2015

This is Tesla's Model X, the company's $132,000 entry into the electric SUV market. It has seating for six or seven (you can opt for a two or three seat middle row), can go 250 miles on a charge, and has rear gull-wing doors (they call them falcon wings because they're also articulated in the middle). I've always wanted a car with gull-wing doors. Although I'll settle for a car that doesn't leak oil in my parking spot and will consistently start and get me where I need to go. I have to leave for work twenty minutes early now to give myself enough time to see if my car is going to start and order an Uber or Lyft if it doesn't. Plus sometimes my car doesn't start AFTER work and I have to decide whether to get an Uber or Lyft back home or to just get drunk at the bar in the strip mall across the street and sleep in my car that night. My life needs reevaluating.

Keep going for a shot of the three-row interior and a news report about the vehicle.

Thanks to everyone who sent this, whose help I could really use pushing my car to the service station so I don't have to pay for a tow.

Gullwing doors. For those of you who never want to be able to park anywhere.

This will be great when we can just get better batteries. Can go 250 miles...In the daytime, with no lights on, no heater or a/c and surely not with 8 people in the car plus luggage. EV's time will come, just waiting on the next big breakthrough.

Anyone remember the Infiniti Triant concept?

    Okay. >_>

  • ToyBoxofGuns

Only Tesla could make an SUV that is as fast as a corvette, cooler than a Delorean, and has the function of a car straight out of sci-fI flick.

  • GeneralDisorder

Unfortunately for sci-fi writers, science is catching up and sometimes surpassing popular sci-fi.

I do like what Tesla is doing and I look forward to the day when you can say "I want an inexpensive car that's reliable enough I can make it to work a couple years" and the first answer on everyone's tongue is "Tesla".

I know it's something Elon Musk wants to make possible and with advances in battery development, charge control, capacity, etc it will become reality unless Tesla goes under somehow. They are releasing a gull-wing vehicle so I'm skeptical that the company can survive that. Mercedes survived their gull wing car but that was decades ago.

These are FALCON WING doors, not Gull Wing. Come on geekologie, get your shit together.

  • TheQiwiMan

I need this car in my life. Elon is a freakin stud!

As long as it doesn't require clock tower's and lightning bolts to run. I'm all for it.

  • Xockszky

SUVs are this generation's mini van, so imagine putting these on a mini van!

  • Edward

Wow this will clearly fit a family of twigs.

  • cbobgo

actually, he's fairly tall and he got in the 3rd row seat without a problem

  • timeiskey

ever try and shove a bunch of teenagers in a mini or a fiat bruh?

  • elam110

What is this, an SUV for ANTS?

  • GeneralDisorder

When I was 13 or 14 I climbed into a Ford Fiesta or Festiva with 9 other people. It was terribly uncomfortable. I sat with the subwoofers (yes, it had subs in it). And my buddy who was a little guy sat on some whore's lap. She was our age but already a whore. If we were scraping the tires on the fenders we didn't notice because the car couldn't go fast enough to tell.

  • shashi

Hush about your depraved habits and exotic terminology. THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

  • cbobgo

there's something pretty wrong with your depth perception if you think this car is the same size as a mini or fiat

  • timeiskey

all i did was ask question. why you gotta be saltine
