Iconic Self Portraits Imagined As Selfies For Samsung Ad

This is a series of three famous self portraits (Van Gogh, Frida Kahlo and Albrecht Dürer) reimagined as selfies to advertise Samsung's new Samsung NX mini camera. The NX mini camera has a 3-inch, forward-facing, flip-up screen because it's important your vanity gets the respect it deserves. I love the tag-line, "For self-portraits. Not selfies," like a photo of yourself taken with a camera DESIGNED FOR SELFIES is some sort of work of art and not just a saddening attempt to seek affirmation from your half-friends online. I took a selfie once. ONCE. I deleted it immediately after and regret ever taking it in the first place. That is how everyone should feel.

Keep going for the other two.

Thanks to Lydia R, who only takes selfies in reflective surfaces.

Just to nit-pick...the point of a self portrait is to convey how the artist sees his/herself. The point of a selfie seems to be to convey how the person who can click a button wants other people to see them. Big difference. God, selfies are lame.

  • Maybe it's an angle or copyright thing, but no Mona Lisa? No Girl With The Pearl Earring? No Scream?

    Those aren't self-portraits.

Pretty sure Van Gogh shouldn't have that ear

  • Emmitt Morgans

Just to be clear: he *should* have the ear that's closest to the point of view of the ad layout, but missing the ear that's shown on the viewfinder of the camera.

EDIT: Wait... the fact that the viewfinder is mirrored from the actual self portrait is confusing me. I guess you're right.

EDIT OF THE EDIT: After some investigation, it seems he lost his left ear lobe... so he should be missing it in the viewfinder. I guess.

    GOD, MY BRAIN!

The angles are all off. They are all facing directly into the camera, yet the screen shows the face slightly to the side.

Also it is the same scene as in Never Back Down...

too commercial, still a nice execution though.
