This is the modular plastic Springfield built by LEGO pro Matt De Lanoy. Now that -- that looks like a fun playset. I would give my left nut to stomp through this Springfield like Godzilla. Well not MY left nut, one of my roommate's that I'll just say is mine (he lost a very serious sports bet).
De Lanoy doesn't have any idea how many bricks it took to build all of Springfield, but he says he's happy to leave it that way.
"I suspect that if I were to know the piece count, then I could get a rough estimate of how much money overall I'd spent on it -- and that's just something I don't want to know," he said.
Ah yes, the old 'ignorance is bliss' method of cost awareness avoidance. That's classic. I do the same thing at the strip club. Listen, Trinity -- whatever you do, don't tell me how much I've given you, okay? Just enjoy it. "This is all Monopoly money." I SAID DON'T TELL ME, IT'S YOURS.
Keep going for several more shots of the whole city but be sure to check out Matt's Flickr page for closeups and inside-shots of the individual buildings.
Thanks to Linbdy, who wants to build a full-scale version of earth out of LEGO, then move there and blow up the real earth. Count me in.
