Oh Hell No: Skyscraper With Windows That Lean Out

leaning-skyscraper-windows.jpg

This is a video of 'Tilt!', a new attraction in the John Hancock Tower in Chicago. On the 94th floor there's a wall of windows that tilt from vertical outward so you see the ground better. Or, for a brief second, imagine you're plunging to your death. I remember the last time I rode a Ferris wheel there was a warning that people who are mentally unstable shouldn't ride because they might get the idea to jump out. And they were right, it was all I could think about. Thank God shitting my pants distracted me.

Keep going for two videos, the first of the tilt in action, the second of the structural engineer talking about it.

Thanks to Nat, who isn't afraid of heights but won't swim in public swimming pools because he's afraid of sharks.

I would remind myself of what I told a buddy who was afraid of a huge rollercoaster. As we stood in line I said, "See all those people ahead of us, they're going. See all those people coming out of the exit, they already rode it." and so on. Then during the ride I saw his eyes were closed so I said, "You know, it doesn't matter if your eyes are open or closed, the train rides on the same track."

We rode that thing 7 times that day.

  • Im way to scared for that. so not going to happen.

This is actually pretty cool, but I admit I'll be pretty freaked out at first.

Other folks may be pissing themselves from the sight, in to which will add to the janitor's duty lists.

Yeah, and I'd hate to be the one who has to clean those windows.

Chicago also has the ledge on the Sears tower. Chicago has a morbid fascination with leaning over building tops.

It's called Skydeck at Willis Tower. I went there last Thanksgiving and it gives you extreme anxiety if you even have the slightest fear of heights.
