I'm Outta Here: Octopus In Jar Opens It From The Inside

octopus-opening-jar.jpg

This is a video of an octopus in a jar that unscrews the lid from the inside. Octopuses: they are smart. Me? There's no way I could have escaped that. Even if I did figure out that the top was removable by turning, I would twist it in one direction once, then immediately back in the other direction on the next turn. I do the same thing when I'm trying to screw in screws. You know how many paintings I've had fall off the walls? Paintings, LOL -- what is this, the MOMA?! I'm a poster and thumb tacks guy. Still, I do wish I had an octopus around that could open stubborn pickle and jelly jars for me.

Keep going for the video.

Thanks to Dominic, who allegedly found an octopus tentacle in a can of tuna once. Ooooh, a surprise bonus!

and I agree - octopusses just doesn't sound right.

  • Lupin Super

Wow - teaching octopodes new skills and providing them with armour. Brilliant! Next up - bigger, much, much bigger.

Can someone stop teaching these guys how to take over from us already?

  • baal

Assholes! I want to breath damn it AND stay in my jar (it makes me feel safe).

  • Corky McButterpants

Now let's try it with the lid fully tightened!!

    That animal looks fucking delicious.

  • Octopi are actually some of the most intelligent animals we have on Earth. They even decorate the opening to their dens.

FYI The word Octopus is Greek in origin. Though widely thought to be correct, the Latin plural rule that would give 'octopi' sadly doesn't apply. The plural is octopuses or octopodes. The latter acceptable but rarely used.

  • Thanks for the info, I didn't know that, I think I'll stick to Octopodes as Octopuses sounds like I don't know what I'm talking about even tho its right! :)

How to you know righty tighty and lefty loosey if you have eight radially symmetrical limbs?

  • Petey

Octopi are bilaterally symmetric so they actually do have sense of left and right. Instead of one left arm and one right arm they have four of each.

Unfortunately for me, I haven't watched Archer yet. It's on my Netflix queue, but I lead a very busy life yelling about the weather on Channel 5 News, so I haven't found the time yet.
