3-D Printed Casts With Ultrasound Treatment Could Mend Broken Bones 40 - 80% Faster

3d-printed-casts-1.jpg

It's been known for awhile that regular ultrasound treatments can help mend broken bones, the problem is that traditional plaster casts prevent the therapy from being used. Enter these 3-D printed casts, which can be custom printed to allow a space above the fracture for doctors to place an ultrasonic pulse generator for daily treatments and heal that bone up real quick -- potentially 40 - 80% faster. But how am I supposed to get all my friends to sign that?! You know, I broke my arm twice in high school and would have killed for an open cast like this. I had a full-arm cast (up to the shoulder) both times and used to freak out that I couldn't just remove the cast whenever I wanted. Plus it smelled like a truck stop bathroom. Oh, what's this? 'For a good time call: 213-555-5151.' Wait -- that's my number! Hold on, I'm getting a call. Hello -- who's this? Randal? I don't know any Randals. You say you're looking for good time? Hmmm, well have you ever been to Disney?

Keep going for a couple closeups.

Thanks to GR, who broke his arm but didn't do anything but tape a ring of popsicle sticks around as a makeshift cast. Aaaaah, so that's why your arm's crooked.

Am I the only one that's worried that faster mending might not equal strong mending? Or is this proven to make mendings just as strong?

I think many analog technologies could benefit from someone trying something new.

3D printing is awesome. That is all.

Looks like the makings of the worst tan lines ever. Are you a leopard?

  • For me, this would be a benefit

Normal casts would take longer to heal meaning that you would end up with more muscle atrophy and a pale member. Also you could just use long sleeves with this 3D printed cast and I bet that any tan lines would be less visible if you used some translucid plastic.

  • adsfasdfasdf

i get the atrophy but whats this about the member? i'm sure it'd get just as much sun as usual. even if you tend to masturbate outdoors you'd simply switch hands anyway.

  • disqus_k2QxOV9H7Z

Oh, the correct word in English would be limb.

  • adsfasdfasdf

so dismember isn't a kind of castration then but rather a synonym for disarm?

  • disqus_k2QxOV9H7Z

Doesn't member means the same as limb but is also used as a slang for penis?

  • Technically yes, but it's considered an archaic use of the word.
