Victory: Human Beats World's Fastest Robot At Ping Pong

robot-ping-ping.jpg

*wolf whistle* Nice ass, bro!

This is a video of table tennis pro Timo Boll doing battle with a KUKA industrial robot. Allegedly the KUKA is the world's fastest robot. Is that true? I doubt it. Of course, I doubt everything. Question everything -- that's my motto. Jk jk, it's tits and ass, but still.

Keep going for the commercial.

Thanks to Thaylor H, who, for her continued service to Geekologie, gets a plastic old west police badge and my permission to shoot you in the legs at her discretion.

As cool as this commercial was its not very confident for the company. "Not the best in table tennis. But probably the best in robotics."
Probably?! You aren't even sure enough to consider yourself the Best in robotics.

    so blatantly fake

The camera angles are way too dramatic to really appreciate the match. I'd be interested to just see even a single rally from one or two angles without sporadic super slow-mo.
I'd be interested to see if the robot can respond to curve shots - can it respond adjusting with counterspin? Because most players don't simply hit the ball back and forward to each other really fast...

to bad that it is filmed like a music video, hard to follow, could not watch it

  • asdfadfs

woo go human dude. does that make me racist?

  • WhiteEagle2

Regardless if its fake, the robot is at a huge disadvantage being mounted to the floor. If it could move around on sliders, it would destroy the human (in the game and in real life).

The point is that he's never going to beat it that way; he had to take advantage of its flaws. The machine would beat him 99.9% of the time if he did not take advantage of its weaknesses, though I admit some of the more easily repeatable methods (hitting it too high, for one) are a little cheap.

We could chain the guy in place too

  • Prosy

Looks fake... but the fact that he beat the robot on places that were somewhat hindered to the optics shows some legitimacy.

  • Paul Schmitt

looks so fake. that robot would just shoot his head of from his shoulders IRL!!
