Record For Solving Six Different Size Rubik's Cubes

rubiks-cube-record.jpg

This is a video of Kevin Hayes setting the world record for solving six increasingly difficult Rubik's Cubes in six minutes, twenty three seconds. Hey, everybody needs a hobby. Starting with the 2x2 his times were:

2x2 - :05

3x3 - :09
4x4 - :36
5x5 - :57
6x6 - 1:45
7x7: 2:51

For reference, I have never solved any size Rubik's cube. Not even a 2x2, and that seems like it should be easy. Well it's not, at least not for me. Also, I'm going to be in and out of the office today because I've got some personal business to attend to so if I go a while between posts it's because a doctor has his fingers up my ass. At least I hope he's a doctor. My point is, I'll be trying to relax.

Keep going for the video.

Thanks to Roman, who plans on beating this record with a hammer.

Has your internet been out for a month? This was a popular video in January.

Go watch the 80's Awareness video with Kevin Bacon. Please. It's aimed directly at you.

I got to play with a 2x2 one some time ago and managed to follow a set of instructions to solve it. It was complicated enough to make me never want to attempt a 3x3, let alone a 7x7.

The unfortunate part of a lot of these "solving rubik's cubes in x time" videos is that most of the time, they've "scrambled" the cubes in a specific way so they can easily "solve" it. I'd like to see someone do this after a toddler got their hands on it for an hour and really scrambled the cube.

  • Crucial

It doesnt really work like that.. There is a very specific way to solve them based on repeating certain twists and turns depending on which colors are where. It doesnt matter how you scramble it. Learning a million moves off by heart seems pointless.

  • It wouldn't matter. The maximum number of moves to solve a standard 3x3x3 Rubik's cube is, apparently, 20 - regardless of how 'scrambled' they are.

<<<<<------Mind blown! The old rubiks cube I used to play with as a kid was hard and clunky to move... He must have lubed up. LOL.

Just incredible. It's the strong finish on every one I enjoy most. I love David Calvo, who can juggle and solve Rubik's cube simultaneously.

  • I'm going to set the world record for the longest time it takes to solve a Rubik's cube.
    26 years and counting!
