Windblade: Hasbro's New Female Transformer

windblade-female-transformer.jpg

Meet Windblade, Hasbro's new female addition to the Transformers universe. Windblade was designed as the result of a fan poll in which people got to vote for a new Transformer's main characteristics. Apparently one of the winning characteristics was 'lady parts'. You know I love those things. She will transform into a VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) jet and make the Decepticons jealous their whole organization is practically one giant metal sausage party.

For those who don't know, this is cool since there have been very few female robots, the most popular being Arcee.

Windblade will get a toy as well as her own comics miniseries as part of her launch. Her comic will be written by Mairghread Scott, who has written several Transformers comics, and drawn by Sarah Stone, who is a new comer to the franchise. This is also the first time that a Transfomers book will have an all-female creative team!

Megatron: Dammit, this party's lame -- where are all the chicks?
Starscream: There aren't any, sir.
Megatron: You know what to do.
Starscream: Do I have to?
Megatron: Yes.
Starscream: But--
Megatron: PUT ON THE DRESS.

Thanks to PYY, who agrees it's high time for a transgender Transformer already. Don't act like it doesn't make perfect sense.

Could someone please explain to me how "female" and "transgender" are suddenly synonymous with one another according to PYY?

Also, Female Transformers have been around since 1985. While this is an interesting development, it isn't THAT unusual.

  • Ender

According to this all-female creative team, female = hair, make-up, boobs, hips. Way to go, ladies, you're doing a good.

  • D&FJ

This is great until you realize that she can only transform 4-7 days a month, and during that time she's also a Deceptacon.

  • Bad Boy Bubby

    Sara Stone the Porn Star?

  • spectre99

    men are doomed.

  • MustacheHam

    So....Hexadecimal is now a transformer?

  • dougfunnay

you know its a female from the make up and pointy chest

  • Kyle Chapman

    "An all female creative team!"
Let's point that out because it's not segregative at all!
We ALWAYS point out when it's all men too!
    -_-

  • Ann Elegant√© Neely

You do realize that 99% of teams that have ever worked on media were made up entirely of men, right?
Cartooning (including comic books) is still a male-dominated field, and it is a big deal when women make it into the field.

  • Kyle Chapman

Yeah, and I wish it wasn't.
The fact that it is so rare that they have to point it out sucks.

  • Anarch0n

Good thing they didn't make her a Dinobot. GW wouldn't know what to do with himself.

  • Steven Rodriguez

Robots don't have a gender. Why are they doing this, it will just confuse children even more. Also, this is hardly the first "female" Transformer. Did they forget about Arcee?

  • Forblat

Ha, I didn't have to look as hard as I thought to find an example of

Do you ever wake up and think to yourself, "What stupid things am I going to write today?" Was this on your list?

  • captain krunk

Arcee was mentioned in the article

  • Tyguy

How would this confuse children "even more"?
Were they confused in the first place?

    Did you even read this?
