Not So Fun Anymore: Photos Of Abandoned Toy Factories

toy-factories-1.jpg

This is a series of photos from abandoned toy factories. Presumably after the dolls came to life and murdered all the workers, but possibly because analog toys have taken a backseat to video games for the past 30 years. Maybe kids just aren't playing with dolls anymore. I remember growing up I had a Cabbage Patch Kid. He was a good friend. Not as good as Stretch Armstrong though, which is how Stretch convinced me to fill him with fireworks and blow him up in the backyard. Then I felt so betrayed I tied one of Stretch's arms to a door knob and jumped down the stairs holding the other one. Honestly, I'm surprised I'm not a serial killer.

Keep going for some highlights, but check out the whole pictorial at io9.

Thanks to lebeeps, who agrees the best toys don't come from factories, they're found in the woods. Heck yeah, sticks and rocks!

There was an abandoned toy factory in my town when I was a kid. I wish my buddy, Mike, and I had had the balls to climb into the building before they eventually tore it down. The way we got to it was from the abandoned railroad spur that lead to it's loading dock. It was built against a hill. When they tore down the building they found that a hole had been dug into the hill as a hidden storage 'room', It had an old bottling machine and some empty bottles that were dated back to the prohibition era.

Once upon a time On the assembly line Ran my brilliant designs Made of plastic

Then the factory called me said "We are appalled we feel Your new designs are too drastic."
These bankers in charge They lacked vision and imagination
"Challenge me, will you? Well, I'll show you all! I'll see to it this wretched company falls. I'm not just some nobody here doing time You fat bastards need me and my brilliant mind!"

    And so... they fired me.

All through the night As I wept, I packed my explosives
    and gasoline filled super-soakers
As deep in my mind My revenge grew ever corrosive.

I invaded the building with my army of toys As a fire rang out with a deafening noise, I screamed "I am the nightmare that crushes your dreams I'm the greatest creator this world's ever seen!"

All through the night As I laughed, I set off my explosives
